I, Rain

by

Gregory Louis Hoover

Mysteriously born, too beautiful and pure for even my own understanding
My whole life spent falling - to perish or become something so much bigger,
as big as the ocean
Cold winds rush around me, forming me, feeling me,
sharing my freedom selflessly
I am but one amongst millions, but we are nothing without one another
I touch my fellows; we part and are still just right, having been neither enriched nor diminished by our brief union
And suddenly I hit bottom - and at once also ecstasy - feeling fulfilled, having served my purpose - my life giving life to all other things
I was a raindrop

Oh, Van Gogh

by

Gregory Louis Hoover

Oh, Van Gogh, you toil with oils and canvas and life,
finding fiery oranges in fields of wheat, but no wife
Living on the bread of the peasants you paint
The images you left us are more beautiful than life, and yet those within your mind made you take your own
Now we sense your suffering, now wee see your beauty, but what can we return for the pictures you gave, but mountains of our money (cheap printed pictures of Presidents so roughly wrought and each always like the other).
We cannot compensate you - Oh, Van Gogh

By Lake Eola

by

Gregory Louis Hoover

By Lake Eola, plastic swans pass powered by pedestrians
City shrubs strain fruitlessly to be wild, though they never were, never will be
A pair of bums sprawl on the grass like giddy Gods in their own Eden, but laugh a laugh too loudly to be believed
Seagulls swoop to peck at floating cigarette butts as if born here, never having heard the sea waves crash
A passing cop curious of my condition asks if Id mind standing up, I ask if hed mind sitting down, and he leaves - I wonder why the bums are friendlier
Promising blue skies stretch northward, while the southern horizon threatens rain - and I at Lake Eola sit between both these extremes like pinned to the center of some giant Ying-yang symbol
Where else could I be but here, now, by Lake Eola

The Healing One

by

Gregory Louis Hoover

No schools possess the skills to teach
to touch the mind as you can reach
No drug, no charm, no spell to heal
equals the cures your mind reveal

Some search you live to ply your gift
grants solice there to those adrift
Never forget the good you've done
We'll never forget The Healing One

To My True Love Stacey Leggett

by

Gregory Louis Hoover

Long before the stars were made
the foundation for our love was laid
Prior to time being given a name
the depth of my feelings for you were the same

And throughout this time from then 'til now
our love has grown such that I do vow
that my love for you will still live on
long after all those stars are gone

Loves Weve Had so Many Years Ago

by

Gregory Louis Hoover

You asked me yesterday, when I first fell for you
Ive thought since then that I also have thought about this too
And truth be told Im not so sure this I can ever know
How many lives and loves weve had so many years ago

That green valley in Ireland where we in 12 A.D.,
rolled in a field of flowers with our new red haired baby
Until I lost you both to sickness and cried with pain and rage
Missing you and our children til dying of old age

Then that life in Kromlov, where we nearly had it all
Until a war between us, God my name did He first call
And later still as fate would seal, we lived in total bliss
A simple life, as man and wife, we parted with a kiss

This life, this time, I feel its true well better all the rest
Weve learned at last, to learn from the past, and that together life is best
And truth be told Im not so sure this I can ever know
How many lives and loves weve had so many years ago

Into this life, God sent my soul
to endure hard times, that have taken their toll
But God does not take without giving too
Which is why He has blessed me with the gift of you

Even in times when you were not near
thoughts of you would calm my fear
And when most blessed with you by my side
Upon angles wings it seems I glide

I thank God for the gift you are
Your love for me has been a guiding star
For youve led me back to a place within me
Where my soul finds peace through eternity

A Year From Now

by

Gregory Louis Hoover

A year from now
I see kitties tumbling before a fireplace
I see memories one million years could not erase
I see rings upon our hands
Golden years and golden bands
Walks and talks about our new grandkids
Missing cookies and loose cookie jar lids

Our new friends and new lives
Everyone else, jealous husbands and wives
You still not content with the home decor
Wanting to find and make for us a home and more
Dakota kisses, chicken bone wishes
All brought together by faith and love somehow
I see a year from now
