A Star Was Born

by

Jack R Hodge

A star was born on Christmas day,
I have something you canít take away
Deep within this heart of mine,
Jesus, a spirit, so true and kind.

Yes, itís the star of Bethlehem,
I know heís real, I can feel him
He rules my life day and night,
I keep him close and never loose sight.

Yes, my star is true and strong,
Given his word it canít be wrong.
Wonít you accept my star today?
All it takes is to kneel and pray.

Youíll have a spirit living within,
Guiding you through a world of sin.
Yes, this star thatís strong and true,
Heíll never leave or forsake you.

Jesus is the star Iím talking about.,
He lives in my heart I have no doubt.
And he is coming back to take me home.,
On this earth, I will no more roam.

Oh yes, the star of Bethlehem,
My Lord, my Savior, I can depend.
He walks by my side night and day,
so you see, Iím going his way.

Grandmothers Hutch

by

Jack R Hodge

Walk up to the hutch; take a good look inside
Filled with her goodies and placed with pride.
Some small token from a friend she loved so,
A dried rose from Grandpaw given long years ago.

The Stories the china could tell of years gone past.
Of birthdays and holidays, oh how they last.
The turkey thatís been served on that big platter
A lot of work, but to Maw it didnít matter,

Theres the nick nack I got her from the five and dime.
Back when I was young, somewhere around nine.
All through the years this hutch she has filled.
For her to stop, I hope she never will.

Gifts of Love she has placed inside with pride.
Is like the Love for us that she will never hide.
Just like in the hutch treasures she has stored.
In her heart there is always room for one more.

The Great Smoky Mountians

by

Jack R Hodge

Come to the Smokieís and see all the sights
Those in the daytime and those at night.
Mountains so beautiful they reach to the sky.
Once you are here itís hard to say good -bye.

It doesnít really matter the time you come.
Just be ready to have lots of fun.
Spring, summer, winter or fall
Come anytime, you will enjoy it all.

In the spring the Dogwood is in bloom.
The leaves are budding out; summer will be here soon.
Some will be camping by a mountain stream.
Some in a motel of their wildest dream.

There are many trails you can walk.
Make new friends, may stop and talk.
See a house or a barn made of logs
Or an old pen where they raised Hogs.

A deer in a field, A bear high in a tree.
Now this a sight you really must see.
In Cades Cove Iím talking about,
youíll have lots of fun I have no doubt.

The bright colors are coming, now itís fall.
This is one of the most beautiful times of all.
The rainbow of colors that dress the trees,
only God could make this and itís free.

Now fall is gone, and winter has arrived
And now the beautiful lights have came alive!
The Christmas shoppers will fill the malls.
Buying their gifts for one and all.

Yes, the Smokies is the place to be.
For a great vacation, or one day to be free.
Bring your wife and kids, maybe mom and dad.
Then thank God for the great time you had.

The Trip

by

Jack R Hodge

There is a trip Iím looking forward to.
Itís way up high, far beyond the blue.
Iíve read the streets are paved with gold
And there you never, ever grow old.

The gates are made of jasper and pearl.
Things never thought of in this world.
Youíll see things beyond your dreams.
Beautiful music and itís played on strings.

Some times when my dreams Drift away.
I think to myself , Iíll be there someday.
Sometimes I think I can hardly wait
to walk through those pearly gates.

There Iíll meet Jesus And heíll take my hand
And say;
"Come son, Let us walk through Gloryland".
There Iíll see Mom and Dad,
Theyíll be walking hand in hand.

And they will walk up and say to me,
"son your Home , safe and free".
There will be Grandpaw and Grandmaw too.
Theyíll say "come on, weíve been waiting for you".

Weíll walk up those beautiful streets of gold.
There will be no sickness or pain, nor the old.
Then we will be at the foot of Godís throan.
We will see Beauty like weíve never known.

This feeling I get , when I think of my trip.
Iím doing my packing, Iím getting equipt.
Now if you happen to leave before I do,
tell everyone Iím on my way too.

My ticket was paid for a long long time ago.
When Jesus hung on the cross and died you know.
Now my Jesus is waiting to take my hand.
Then Iíll live forever in the promise land

The Angel

by

Jack R Hodge

What color is an angel? What do you see?
Are we not all the same? No color nor creed?
Instead of our eyes we should look with our hearts.
We all were the same from the very start.

When we are in Heaven no colors there.
Weíll be all the same, no eyes will compare.
Our brothers and sisters will all be the same.
There will be no calling of cynical names.

The day is coming, weíll join hand in hand.
When we reach heaven all will be grand.
All there will be loved and treated as one.
No color weíll see, And all will have won.

A Winters Walk

by

Jack R Hodge

As I walk the path through the woods,
Beside a brook for a moment I stood.
The smell of wood burning fills the air.
The peace and quiet I have not a care.

Two squirrels skampering about in a tree.
Away from the City, this is the place to be.
For a quiet walk on a cold winters day.
As I stroll along to my Jesus I pray.

As the snow falls and lays on the ground.
I think how lucky for the peace Iíve found.
In a walk on a crisp and cold winter day,
Here forever would be nice if I could stay.

Thanksgiving

by

Jack R Hodge

On a winters crisp November morning
And the leaves are falling to the ground
The fog hovers over the meadow
The sounds of wild life all around

A gentle breeze blows across my face
An early morning mist I do embrace
The day Of Thanksgiving is at hand
We are blessed to live in this land

The aroma of roasted Turkey fills the air
All pies have been baked, set out in pairs
Stuffing with Chestnuts, cranberries sauce,
Candid Yams, Peas, and Salad Tossed

We'll be blessed with Family and friends
A big big spread, yes that's the trend
When dinner is over, we're all stretched out
Me in my chair and maw on the Couch

I'll bless this day, in a land to be free
Thank the men fighting for you and me
Praying soon they'll all be home to stay
Never forgetting God gave us this day

The River Remembers It's Journey

by

Jack R Hodge

As the water flows swiftly to the sea,
What mysteries and beauty it must see
It passes under a mighty bridge up high
A beauty standing. A secret she hides.
It could be a lover of days long long ago
Or something inside giving her growth
The mighty river travels on to the sea
Passing a fisherman could it be me!
Down, Down, Down the lure disappears
The fight begins, to the surface it appears
A mighty fish, my, my what a catch to see
Off to the skillet for you, I wish it were me.
As the river rolls on getting closer to the sea
It passes a dock, children playing for free.
Mom preparing a feast as dad lounges close by
All waiting with anticipation, canít wait to try
Fried Chicken, Baked Beans, Potato Salad too
Cole Slaw, Pieís and Banana Pudding for you
Oh what a great feast, a day all will remember
Fall is on itĎs way; Itís soon to be September
Rolling along passing big cities, valleys, towns,
Mountains, pastures of green, seaward bound
Beauty and grace sent from above to be found
God gave to all, and love plenty to go around
Oh what a change as It rolls into the big sea
Traveling far, It is where it was meant to be
The change in scenery, what beauty and grace
Plants floating on bottom, some look like lace
Fish of all sizes, colors, shapes and rare forms
Gliding along freely, some hatched , some born
All the rock formations; what a sight to see
God placed a city for his creatures, under the sea
Now big ships he carries from port to port
Some filled with cargo, some passengers aboard
Oh that journey, as remembers of days of old
The swift current, rocks, logs, a big water fall
A dams holding me back, what a big wall
Now I am much bigger, But it was a long hall

The Storm

by

Jack R Hodge

Remember the wind, the black clouds in the sky
People running frantically for a place to hide
Oranges, Grapefruits, Limes and Lemons too.
Rolling around the streets, some rolling to you

Trees bending, sweeping down to the ground
Some lifted, blowing away never to be found
The electricity building, sweeping over the car
Cracking and popping, keep calm! It was hard

The kiss of the waves as it reaches white sands
Then returning back deep under Gods Hands
Clouds drifting away, Sky returning to blue
God is so good, Always faithful always true

Walking the beach after a mighty storm
Picking up shells, some whole, some worn
Remembering back of what took place that day
Thanking my God, Giving to Him all the praise

As the waves roll in with foam white and gray
The storm is over, so we can start another day
We shall not forget, though the days drift away
How God embraced us, He gave us another day

Relaxation

by

Jack R Hodge

As we step into the cafe, nestled on the banks of a stream.
The water rippling over the rocks, Itís almost like a dream.
The waitress greats us with a warm and pleasant smile.
I will be your server, relax and enjoy yourself for awhile.

May I bring you a beverage? Sweet Tea for my wife and me.
We pondered over the menu, great selections we did see.
I selected the Pan Fried Chicken, with all the great sides.
My wife picked the Road Kill, to me that was no surprise.

As we sat talking, of things we would love to see and do.
We watched the sunset, a sky filled with yellow and blue.
As Godís light filled the sky, the moon shined on the water.
Soft, sweet music filled the air, this shurly was not a bother.

We walked over a bridge to a flower garden, what a sight.
The Beauty and sweet fragrance of flowers filled the night.
A special night to remember, locked away deep in my heart.
My dear I will Love you forever, Iíve knew this from the start.

Christmas

by

Jack R Hodge

As this Christmas season draws near
I wonder if we remember why we are here
We should remember every day
And kneel beside our beds and pray

Our savior was born on Christmas day
He will return and take us away
To our home high in the sky
Where we will never say good bye

Our Jesus our Lord who lay on the hay
Iím sure he knew the world would end this way
So as a child he spread the word
The people marveled at the words they heard

So this year we should spread the news
That our Jesus is the one to choose
Heís the Savior of all man kind
Choose Jesus and donít get left behind
Take the Bible in your hand
Start spreading his word across this land
Tell the world what heís all about
Youíll have peace with in I have no doubt

Now on this Christmas with all your cheer
" Remember Jesus " That he came here
To save us from a place down below
Donít know about you, But I donít want to go

The American Soldier

by

Jack R Hodge

The American Soldier in time of war.
Is put through hell, but with Eagles He Sores.
To protect our country from men of woe.
Away to a foreign country, they must go.

Our life is held in their brave brave hands.
Fighting for us, they have taken a stand.
It is up to us to cheer them on.
Praying to God to bring them home.

Making their way through this foreign land.
Pushing on, through the heat, rain, dust and sand.
In a country filled with men of hate, lust and greed.
It will take God, in their hearts to plant the seed.

As I sit here safe and secure in my home.
Iím sure you are frightened and feel alone.
God is your friend, reach out and take His hand.
He will keep you safe and secure in this foreign land.

The Lion

by

Jack R Hodge

The Lion is known as the king of the jungle.
When he is present all become humble.
His body stands tall showing off his torose.
He is mighty and proud as he stays on course.
He lets it be known he rules with great pride.
His eyes sharp as he roams the countryside.
Seeing everything, he walks with great stride.
With elegance he moves, graceful like the tide.
With a loud roar filling the air with horror.
Standing on top of a cliff, giving out a roar.
What grace and beauty given for all to behold.
A creation of God, one of many as we are told.

Under The Sea

by

Jack R Hodge

Under the sea, what beauty and grace.

Plants floating on bottom, some look like lace.

Fish of all sizes, colors, shapes and rare forms.

Gliding along freely; some hatched, some born.

All the rock formations, what a sight to see.

God placed a city for his creatures under the sea

As I Ponder

by

Jack R Hodge

As I sit here pondering over the mess this world is in.
Pondering my youth and the way it was back then.
The world seemed to be in a much better place.
Seemed to be blessed more with Godís Holy Grace.

Has it been greed that has brought us to this place.
We need to get back to Christ before it is to late.
With the word of God being removed from our land
The time of judgment is coming, it is close at hand.

We are seeing the signs written in the great book.
It has all been recorded in the Bible, just take a look.
War, Tornados, Flooding, Earth Quakes and more.
I believe were being told, soon we will be no more.

So my friend as I record these words of woe.
I pray you know God and youíve been made whole.
I pray for your sole to my Heavenly Father above.
That you are saved by grace. I do this with Love.

Until next time,
Stay in Gods care

HE IS MY GREATEST PRIDE

by

Jack R Hodge

As I ponder over my life,
I feel how fortunate to have God by my side
As to the things Iíve done in my past
He has forgiven, His Love will last
As we talk and plan out my life,
Iíll go forward and never think twice
To do Gods work, as He would have me to
To Him be faithful and true
He is with me Night and Day,
From His side I will never stray
From Him comes wisdom you see,
Walking with Him is where I want to be
Yes the courage He gives me to go on,
He is always there to make me strong
He is the light that fills my soul,
He is the greatest story ever been told
I never tire of writing of Him,
So Iíll keep on writing, this is my whim
Iíll keep doing the best I can,
You know He will make me a better man
Sometime the excitement I fill inside,
Rushes through me like the Tide
You can see He is my greatest pride
So with Him I will forever abide
