The Stranger's Door

by

Kathy Hobaugh

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks,
the door will be opened." (Matthew 7:7 NIV).

The Stranger’s Door
I knocked upon a Stranger's door.
I was afraid and all alone.
He asked what He could do for me,
As He sat upon His throne.

My soul is overwhelmed with fear,
My heart with pain and sorrow.
Tonight my life is being taken.
I’m concerned about tomorrow.

I’ve looked beyond the doors of death.
Life doesn’t end, you know.
I’ve heard Your words. You speak the truth.
We reap the trouble we sow.

The commands of God should be kept.
The Ten so good and fair.
But I’ve not kept Your commands, Sir
I’m filled with regret and despair.

I’m begging for Your mercy, Stranger.
I’m in a desperate state.
I long to live with the goodness of God.
Surely, hell is full of hate.

I know not whether God can forgive.
Perhaps I’ve asked too late.
I’ve spoken my heart. My soul’s at rest.
You're in control of my fate.

All of a sudden a Man came forward.
He’d come to sacrifice.
And although I was not valuable,
He willing gave His life.

An innocent man died. The guilty freed.
He took a sinner’s place.
I wanted to run to the arms of God,
But I couldn’t grasp His grace.

Years went by; I sought the truth.
I wanted to understand.
I prayed that God might help me see.
The Bible revealed God’s plan.

"It was I who took your place," said Christ.
"Your pain and sorrow, too.
I didn’t die because of righteousness.
I died because I loved you."

"Now go and keep the commands of God.
Don’t worry about tomorrow.
Beyond those doors of death for you,
There’s no more pain or sorrow."

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (Revelation 21:4 NIV).

Life Is But A Breath

by

Life Is But A Breath

Life is but a breath, Oh God
It’s here and then it’s gone.

My body struggles helplessly.
My suffering’s been so long.

I fade like an evening shadow,
As my illness takes its toll.

I cry out in my misery,
In the bitterness of my soul.

The Lord looked down to comfort me,
In my anguish and my pain.

Your body will surely perish, child,
But I did not die in vain.

Now come into my father’s house,
The place prepared for thee.

No longer is their suffering,
Your soul has been set free.

Love is all you’ll find here,
For all eternity.
