Always Somthing Better

by

Janet Herrera

Are you always reaching for something better?
Your life is a bore and you want something more.
Maybe you think you would be happier
with a new car, a new wife, a new house,or a new life.
It should be enough to have what you need
and not just what you want, or maybe it is greed.
Will life pass you by if you don't reach for it all.
Well don't be surprized if you never really find
because what you looking for is not out there anywhere.
Its not a place,person,or thing
and its been with you all the time.
Being happy with what you have,
its a state of mind.

Paint Me In Words

by

Janet Herrera

put down your brush
and pick up your pen
take one good look
and paint me again
not on canvas with colors
or in oils and enamal
just close your eyes
and think of what you see
now pick up your pen
and in your own words
paint me

Blown Away

by

Janet Herrera

You are the wind
I am the breeze
you have the strenght
and I have the ease
our combination is a gentle force
in lifes unknown course
you have the strong emotions
I have patients and devotion
without you I'm meaningless
without me you have no direction
together we are meant to be
blown away

Time To Myself

by

Janet Herrera

These days life seems to crowd me.
leaving me very little time alone.
the voices that surround me
are always singing a sweet song
so instead of being rude
and walking away,
I stay and just sing along.
before I know it
these tunes of conversation fill my day
and the sweet silent sound of solitude
that I long for is far away

And The Devuil Poured In

by

Janet Herrera

And the devil poured in.
I saw the liquid dripping from his chin.
he was weakened by the evil flowwing in,
a feeling came over him warming his soul,
what he didn't know that his soul was letting go,
to a new power that was taking control.
the good he may have once had
was now gone and replaced with only bad.
it calls him from a place he cannot hide,
it makes a connection deep inside.
and confuses him into believing
its his only real friend.
telling him he must be willing
to cheat, steal, or lie,
to keep this never dyeing friendship alive
now he thinks he can't live without it
even though it is, what's killing him,
one drink at a time.

Letting Go

by

Janet Herrera

I still remember you everyday.
I wonder what you might be thinking
or what you would say.
there is an emptyness that fills my life
and a fear that time holds me too tight.
nothing else has changed,
yet nothing seems the same
and nothing seems right.
they say in time I'll forget.
how do you forget someone you love?
I thought I heard your voice in the crowd.
I tried to listen but the noise was to loud.
they say in order for me to move on,
I would have to be willing
to let go of you.
but thats not something I'm ready to do.

Learning To Love

by

Janet Herrera

love is confusing
some value it more than life.
others say love can make you crazy.
there was a time in my life
I thought it is a chemical thing in your brain,
thats why people seem strange or act insane.
love is our stongest emotion.
so why is it so hard to understand?
the ultimate feeling for one another.
could someone lack the ability to love
even though they have been taught?
perhaps this is the key,
weather they choose to love or not.
that is why you can't make someone love you,
try as you will it's up to them how they feel.
and some makeup their mind
before any question can be defined.
love at first sight, prearranged or blind.
the way a mother loves a child as her own
even if the child was switched at birth.
a kind of prelove.

Once In A While

by

Janet Herrera

I think of you once in a while,
as I do I can't help but smile.
the four of us would laugh by the hour
now without you it seems a bite more sour.

every stage of life holds some change.
we come and go as the styles are rearanged.
contantly collecting memoiries along the way.

and while the days shall pass
like sand in the hour glass.
and your time runs out,
we will think of you,
once in a while.

A Sweeter Time Awaits

by

Janet Herrera

The rain is falling
and with it hard times are calling.
when times are rough, life's hard to face.
we learn to crawl to get to a better place,
and as we try to stand on our own
sometimes we fall and feel alone.
for a momment were tired and weak,
then a determination kicks in
and we are back on are feet again,
where we can look back and see
the difficulty we experinced
did'nt leave us bitter or weak
but only made us stronger
with a reminder to apperciate,
everyday, no matter how bad
a sweeter time awaits.

Blue Is Just Another Color

by

Janet Herrera

Flowers are not all that pretty
and they just die anyways
sunshine and clear skies
does'nt always make things alright
yesterdays joke made me laugh
today it does'nt seem so funny
I'm feeling this way another bad day
and its hard to believe tomorrow is any better
who cares if birds sing
nothing means anything
it's no big deal
there is nothing really wrong
and blue is just another color

A Mental Escape

by

Janet Herrera

There was a woman that I knew
who needed more than a break
so she packed her bags
and went on a mental escape
she did'nt know it was a desparate place togo
It was completely bare not a soul was there
she did alot of walking
without a need to speak quietly quit talking
she thought about how to end her mental pain
and believed that nothing would be the same
until it drove her mad and almost insane
she wanted to return
after all that she had learned
getting there was easy a walk in the park
going back is hard like being lost inthe dark
It was ten years before I saw her again
she is different now thats easy to see
because I am the one who went
but the one who came back is not me

On The Banks Of The Green River

by

Janet Herrera

I'm standing on the banks of the green river.
Watching the others as they go rushing in.
Some can't even swim. They have been warned
about getting in over their heads.
Still they don't hesitate as if they can't wait.
They just jump in and under they go.
Yet their not even wet! It's not the water.
They are drownding in debt.
This is where the money flows.
It's hard to keep up in the swift currency.
You will forever pay for a careless mistake,
the punishment is a high interest rate!
Your life you will waste
if its the dollar that you chase.
Each one of us determines the value of money
It means more to some and less to others,
and to the foolish it's everything.

Bobber

by

Janet Herrera

What's a floating on the water,
it's my favorite little bobber.
I cast it out and reel it in,
over and over again and again.
I'm hoping it will bob out of sight,
that means I've got a bite.
and if everything goes right
I'll have fish for dinner tonight.
it happily dances while I sing.
a little round ball on a string.

Untitled

by

There is something special you do.
a rare gift or talent in you.
not just another face in the crowd,
for this you should be proud.
a reward is owed to you
with the recognition that is due.
hands clap as they tip their hat,
this moment belongs to you.
congradulations are true.
will our appreciation
be enough for you?
nobody famous once said.
"to much fame and fortune
goes to your head"
placing you up on a pedestal.
from where it's hard,
not to look down on everyone else.

Leave Time Alone

by

Janet Herrera

I always thought time was on my side,
now I find it can also be against you.
Time surrounds us as long as we live.

You can't take time back,
and it's only your own time
that you can really give.

I'll never forget that time
holds the greatest power
that nothing remains the same.
and that anyone's whole life
could change in the next hour.

Just so you don't get ahead of yourself,
everything is controlled by the hands of time.
It does'nt matter if your ready or not,
because it's the descison of time,
that pushs you forward or holds you back.

The only time, when time does'nt matter
is after your dead.
you can't change time.
leave time alone.

The Length Of Your Hair

by

Janet Herrera

The Length Of Your Hair
How we envy long beautiful hair
curly or straight our fingers can't wait
to comb through those long lovely locks
as it gently moves as we give it a toss
short hair is fine but if you want to compare
by far it is long hair that gets the stare
unbound and tangle free, silky, soft, and shiney
when it comes to color they don't care
what is important is the length of your hair

To Look For Love Close Your Eyes

by

Janet Herrera

To find love listen to your heart.
If you think your gonna see love
your out of your mind
Real love is'nt easy it's hard to find.

Think about what your willing to give
before you deside what want
It starts with respect and being kind,
If you think your gonna see love
your out of your mind
Real love is'nt easy it's hard to find.

Love is'nt just out there floating in the air.
It's the feelings you share that grow over time.
If you think your gonna see love
your out of your mind
Real love is'nt easy it's hard to find.

To look for love close your eyes
Thats how I found mine.

Chasing The Day Away

by

Janet Herrera

Chasing the day away.
That's what grandma would say.
Doing not much of nothing all day.

Chasing the day away.
In a hammack I will lay.
with a cool breeze I would sway.

Chasing the day away.
No work I prefer to play.
just doing what I want as I may.

Chasing the day away.
A long nap under the sun's ray.
Tomarrow's another day.

It' Always That Way

by

Janet Herrera

Roads lead in or away
It's the bad choice
that leads you astray

Taking the wrong road
will only dead end
in the wrong place.

And no matter what you belive
your good intensions
were left at the last crossroad.

Any road is the right one
as long as you are not
going for the wrong reason.

The directions never change
they stay the same
It's always that way

So I Thought

by

Janet Herrera

When it's late at night and things get quite
I take time and think about what's happening in life.
I try not to just worry about things.
I consider that to be wasted time,
like pacing back and forth in your mind.
I always wonder if there is something
that I missed that needs to be done.
Or find a way to ease the burdens of another.
Everyday things in life can be a distraction
To the important things that go unnoticed.
I say a prayer for those who might be suffering
to find peace in their lives.
I try to think of something positive
and good before I call it a night.
I thought life would be easier by now or
So I thought.

Rain On Me

by

Janet Herrera

If water can wash it away
Let it wash away the dirt from the day.
And if water can wash away all my sins
than forgive me and let me make amends
Rain on me
Rain on me

If the water from heaven is pure
And my own tears
are like the deep blue ocean.
Rain on me
Rain on me

I drink the cool water
from the mountain spring
As the rivers flow
with life they bring.
Rain on me
Rain on me
