Hate and the Heart

by

Justin Hanselman

Hate is the beast
Locked up in its cage
Hot malice spouts from its nostrils
Foul language from its mouth
Restrained by its cage the beast paces angrily
It feeds upon insults like a baby does to milk
When in full strength
The bars are destroyed
The violence of man is unleashed
Sorrow and anguish come
The beast runs blindly
Driven by red hot fury
Then
Drained of its energy
Itís caged once again

The beast will always live
For that is its nature
Though the beast may seem invincible
It can be starved
Your heart is the weapon
If harsh problems are ignored by the heart
The beast ignores them too
You see
The beast and the heart are one
Joined in the unity of emotions

War

by

Justin Hanselman

War is a menace
It runs wild
Leaving death wherever it goes
Fear
It comes from this tornado
Sorrows are laid upon peopleís minds
Chaos follows the menace
Planting itself in the lives of men

And yet
For all the hurt
War brings evil to ruin
Serves justice
People unite to comfort each other
Others are saved
Liberation of a country
War is not in vain

Eyes

by

Justin Hanselman

Eyes speak with their watery tears
Dripping them down your face
Reminding you of sorrows and joys

Trickling down your cheek
In a warm and loving embrace
Washing your face
When consumed by hate

Your eyes show emotions
Always wet
Stories are told through eyes
Stories about you

Night

by

Justin Hanselman

Night is like a black velvet sheet
That covers the sky
It comes quietly
Underneath its protection
The moon and its accomplices rise
Shining like jewels
Cool winds are ushered in
Refreshing and calming
Helping mice out of their homes
Encouraging owls to leave their shelter
Night changes the world
Earth is made mysterious and wonderful

And then
Out of the east
A glimmer of bright light
Night leaves as quickly as it came
Replaced by day
Earth is changed into another spectacle

Rage

by

Justin Hanselman

What do I call this inner feeling?
It thrashes around
Throwing fits within my soul.
It taunts me.
Trying to control me.
I feel it pounding the cage bar
Forged to control it
From the goodness within me.
I feel it grow as I feel anger.
I hear it persuading me to fight.
To kill?
This thing of no discipline
Torments me day and night.
I Stay awake in the dark
Afraid to sleep
Afraid that I might be lost to a growing feeling.
My hands sweat
I feel it coming
Gathering its strength to break restraints.
I Scream inwardly at this horrible emotion.
Is it an emotion at all?
I feel it burning.
It rushes through my system.
I flee to solitude
Where I let the ever-growing feeling out.

Pounding walls
Screaming in pain
Weeping in anguish
I let it all out.
My rage
My fury
My hurt

Identity

by

Justin Hanselman

Race through the valley
That is hidden behind the mountains
From which you came young

Linger in the cool green grass
Savor the sweet smell of
Swaying daisies
Dash across to new roads
Take the one that suits you
Follow its path
Make your decisions
Create your identity
Molded by the paths you choose
Clutch to yourself and
You will never lose your way.
