The Universal Woman

by

Frieda Groffy

I'm the universal woman
with the rainbow coloured skin
I bare the pain of
all small little girls
gang raped in the wars
the violated, beaten up women
dying, and not knowing why
I'm the fierce, tortured freedom fighter
of all the revolutions
long forgotten and honour denied
I'm the universal woman
humiliated for my colour and tongue
persecuted for my beliefs
for my true love for a woman
circumcised in my sexuality
killed in my womanhood
I'm the universal woman
with the rainbow coloured skin
mother of the earth
queen of all life
mistress of the moon
the warmth and passion of the sun
the tree of tenderness
the source of compassion
the balance of the world
the universal woman
with the rainbow coloured skin
am I

That next moment*

by

Frieda Groffy

That next moment
so I thought
I would hear your voice
whispering in the wind
It would be your face
I touched in the mirror
We would meet around
every corner I turned
That next moment
so I thought
I would hear your footsteps
climbing my stairs
it would be your knock
at the door
That nex moment
so I thought
I would be holding
your warmth.

No Games-Poem *

by

Frieda Groffy

Don't want to play
hide-and-seek
don't want this
hidden pain
don't want joy
as a masquerade
don't want sorrow
in a dark corner
don't want to play
on safe
not calling your name
dressing you up in veils
my mystery woman
the world will know
I do love you!

A small love poem*

by

Frieda Groffy

I kick on the sound
of your voice
the gurgle of your laugh
Your smile
delivers soul food
to my heart
your words have that
hip hop beat
on top of a smooth
jazzy background
a gay gang of butterflies
boogies in my stomach
could it be a thing
called love?

Absence Blues

by

Frieda Groffy

Sometimes sadness sleeps
next to joy
in the confusing bed of love
lovers playing a dangerous
chess game of choices
within the cloak of tenderness
is hidden the sting of jealousy
explosive silences killing
soothing words in throats
aching with bottled up tears
why is there always pain
embedded in the smile of happiness
deep desire transforming
into haunting dreams
the longing to drink
love nectar from your lips
fading away in the
dry well of your absence

Ballad of the Words

by

Frieda Groffy

oh the words, hundreds of them
meeting in the waiting rooms of my brain
restlessly begging to be used
while the empty hours of the night
slowly are ticking away
I dip them in the fluid of my soul
giving them a layer of truth
giving them the pulse of my heartbeat
they are spinning and spinning around
like a whirlwind storm, input of impressions
of emotions collected like a bunch
of wild flowers in the fields
then I select the most beautiful ones
the most tenderly colored shades
to write a poem for you
my sweet, beloved, soul mate
afterwards sleep finally foils me
with its soothing peace
