Answers Are Dreams

by

Doni Gleaton

She walks among the mist,.. lost;

looking for answers that may not come

she holds herself as she thinks about

this affair that's begun;

Like a dream she walks

among the silken mist...

it covers her body with ghostly

fingers that barely miss

touching the soul of this

dream who wanders forever

through the threads

of sunlight and beads of wanting,

weeping, searching forever

for the answers that are so haunting...

Crying out for answers that may not come

to enclose her in the arms of

this affair she has begun.

The End

Only the Audacious Enter

by

Doni Gleaton

Oh murky waters seeping in
Across this bridge of nebulous
That lies nestled within my realm
Of my oomph and constant want

Nanomia waits cluttered there
To swallow you up as the hors d’oeruve
So heed the signs that warn about the
Gnomish’s laugh and curves

This territory has dangers that
Sing a promiscuous lyric
To all the images that appear
Waltzing their dances so awfully pyrrhic

Bravery will win you the walk
Along the one way suspicious lanes
Signs are invitations that lead you to
The palace where sensuality reigns

I will swim your murky waters
And wrap you in arms of lecherousness
Leave you with the unmoveable memory
Of a insatiable aphrodite obsessed

Love Me to Death

by

Doni Gleaton

Stories like this have
Happened through centuries
Like Romeo and Juliet
Possibly Thelma and Louise
A bond so beautiful so strong
Held tight when right or wrong
Another example Bonnie and Clyde
Together till the end side by side
If you could look ahead and see the fate
Would you stay and die alongside your mate
Friend or lover that is to me true love
Together no matter who is vindictive of
The bond that literally takes away your breath
Think about it next time you think or say
I wish someone loved me, or I love you to death

Heed the Echos

by

Doni Gleaton

The moon is shining on the crest of the hills
Stars are mingling with snowflakes descending
Listen carefully to the echoes that are now still
From the day’s events that seemed unending

Of Children laughing and sliding on sleds
Shoppers hurrying along in decorative gear
Handling stress and happiness seems widespread
While smaller children’s eyes are all revere

Funny snowmen pop up on every lane
Looking very haphazard in the clothes they wear
Parents smiling, shaking hands and looking arcane
While festive sounds and smells fill the air

Houses start to look jeweled and all aglow
Children are sleeping and have said their prayers
And Mr. Moon shines on the newly fallen snow
Weary shoppers have hoarded and wrapped their wares

Snowmen are grinning in the mystical mist
And daytime echos have quieted and ceased
Parents read the childish scrawl of Christmas lists
And the stillness brings about a certain peace

Ascending wishes travel on snowflakes soaring
And they climb upward for all they’re worth
Each carrying the same prayer that needs restoring
Peace, Joy and Goodwill across the earth.

The End

Lesson of A Heart

by

Doni Gleaton

Candles were lit
Table was covered in lace
China was the finest
Flowers were thoughtfully placed
Dinner was the result
Of a quickened hearts endeavor
Moments in time to be created
And remembered forever
The sheers at the windows
Flowed with the nights breeze
Sounds carried up to the porch
Came from the summer sea
Candle wicks lingering flashed
The table was cleared
Flowers ornamented the trash
Dinner became the result
Of empty memories made
Sheers at the windows
Still flowed with the nights light air
Sounds carried in from the porch were
Tears of a heart in despair
Questions that answers seemed to avoid
About a special night
Now destroyed

Candlelight Limbo

by

Doni Gleaton

Wispy shadows growing
A struggling revolt
Disappearing just to bolt
One tiny flame so svelte
Even the wax dances as it melts
Light a candle and watch it grow
Endless moves the candlelight limbo

Winter Dressing the Terra Firma

by

Doni Gleaton

So quiet this night
Calmness paints the light
That the stars twinkle to
Sending to all a purple hue
Falling snowflakes the only sound
Light winds causing them to dance around
Distance lights make a hazy pattern
Across the hills like nature’s lantern
Adorning the trees the snowflakes dress
Leaving the countryside truly blessed
Winter making its day view screen
A winter wonderland country scene

Psyche Recollections

by

Doni Gleaton

Can you ever really forgive
If you cannot forget
Ruins that rise like skyscrapers
In the mindless river where
Waters run still and deep
Through the webs that were woven
For the agonizing candles
With their irrecoverable flames
That burn with bygone echos
Along the mindless river bank
Flowing forever with remembrance

One Two Strike Three

by

Doni Gleaton

I have shed the layer
Of the first time
Peeled away the emotions
Like a lunatic mime

Hid the tears and drowned inside
Flooded my heart
To the very core
Lived my life falling apart

Invisible anguish
Remnants of the beginning
Never forgotten when
The second time was thinning

A broken soul made the fool
Strike two was the only embrace
From this anarchical form
Trespassing my space

The first two layers
Healed slowly but very well
When the form reappeared
Musically trying to impel

Abusing the barriers I built within
The form returned with complete disregard
No longer the tortured and suffering fool
I was a wiser mime who remembered the scars

One Two Strike Three
Protecting my heart like a burial ground
No longer the tortured suffering mime
It was alot easier this time around

Like a protective angel
Watching from guardian tree
My entire being is protected
From the noxious Strike Three

Yesteryear And Futurity

by

Doni Gleaton

Voices dancing in the air
Images surround me like a collage
All approaching from the past
Hollow voices and ghostly images
Repeating cards that have been played
Distant views are waiting in the wings
The future parts forthcoming
Tears and smiles have the leading roles
No body doubles allowed in the game of life
The future awaits to sing it’s serenade

I Wanna Be A Cowgirl

by

Doni Gleaton

Riding that day I saw a dream
Dressed in chaps the color of cream
A sweatband surrounded his hair
Streaked from the sun here and there
His muscles rippled under his shirt
While watching he brought my senses to alert
The aurora surrounding him almost came alive
With every step or movement from his long strides
Maybe it was the weathered skin under his hat
Because I could not see his eyes staring from where I sat
Lost in my own thoughts while from his horse unfurled
The magnificent form that made wishes of every cowgirl
Become one, all alike and bold
Regretful of leaving I turned my horse home

Blissful Slumber

by

Doni Gleaton

Grab a ride
From a raindrop falling
Take a slide
On droplets lolling
Stop and Dream
And wish away
On a sunlit beams’
Golden sleigh
Reach for the clouds
And be swept along
With the hazy shrouds’
Listless song
Float softly downward
With the gathering dew
And wake ever so slowly
To reality’s hue.

Orge Vs Seraph

by

Doni Gleaton

Every morning they sit
And stare, same old fight
Reliving the panorama
Of the previous night
One has horns and
Digs his heels in
The one with the halo
Is vaguely my twin
Good Vs the Bad
And the arguing goes on
Even though its my shoulders
They sit upon
Their weight is sometimes
Very uneven
I try to brush them away
And hope they are leaving
But I look to my left
And then to my right
My shoulders bear
Their marks and all
Their plights
Forever doomed to be
Pulled between
Philosophies
Of the halo one
And the horned swine
I am constantly brushing
Off these shoulders of mine.

Joker's Visage

by

Doni Gleaton

Listen, ‘less you can hear the pain
Over in the corner of your mind
The Joker sees your suffering
But ‘alas he does not pity
Simple views towards love
Makes him tumble with mirth
Avert your eyes and cover your ears
Hide your heart from this jester
"Cause he’s always looking...
Sending decoys if he sees
A vulnerable soul

Moment or Eternity

by

Doni Gleaton

Time, a true and only friend
Sure to be there thru infinity
Whether in moments quickly gone
Or those that stretch to eternity
A healer without the propaganda
The teacher of lessons learned
A forgiver thru instances of want
No philosopher can teach lessons
Of all those we learn
No counselor can help
Like the stages of time
With experiences and influences
Time shapes us for whom we are
How we forget, forgive or suffer
Or how we chose not to remember
Each with our own meter we regulate
Just how long an instance is needed to pass
And allow us to carry on with time

Cradling Thoughts

by

Doni Gleaton

Rock me in the moment
Where memories collide
With illusions tranquil
And forgiven minutes hide

Transgress through seconds
Like a babbling brook
To visualize totally
The paths I took

Rock me in the moment
When all is laid bare
Bring forth out of limbo
Remembrances of rare

Lounge through reflections
Of my heart’s subdues
Surround me with a lullaby
Before they transfuse

Rock me in the moment
Before reality sets in
Where hours, minutes, seconds
Are forgotten again?

A Fowl Thanksgiving

by

Doni Gleaton

Got up early on Thanksgiving ‘morn
To find the turkey pan tattered and torn
Went on a search high and low
Wondering where could a turkey go?
Seeing the kitchen door slightly ajar
Saw a sight really bizarre
Down the road my gobbler quacked
Running and hopping, his clothes packed
Wearing my good Sunday sweater
To hide the fact he had no feathers
Hearing me call, the faster he ran
Along the way he dropped my frying pan
With all the potatoes I had peeled
For my tasty Thanksgiving meal
Dropping stuffing along his way
I won’t forget the year my turkey got away
When I had gone in search for a tasty goose
And all my efforts could not produce
Any kind of look alike bird
For this Thanksgiving turned absurd

Live Reborn

by

Doni Gleaton

A chance again to look at the world
To see life as it totally unfurls
With the wide-eyed look of a gecko
To the world sent a radar echo
Gathering info to last a life time
A journey jocund and sublime
Laced with solace of failure expectable
Thru the eyes of a child never full
A new parent puts the child always first
Thru unexpected life and never rehearsed
Living again thru the eyes of a child
Eyes so trusting and wonderfully beguiled

Hallowe’en Solicitors

by

Doni Gleaton

Black stars in an uneven night
Caused the scarecrow to dance around
His post in the pale moonlight
Clouds, hazy and heavy with dew
Dripped into the witch’s black pot
Smoldering the fire under her brew
Tricks were wrapped in a ghostly manner
While the moon drifted in the sky
Advertising like an orangish, a ghoulish banner
Pumpkins were smashing with their Halloween grins
Black cats pounced and pawed on all that moved
Showing off horrible teeth down past their chins
Bats flying around supervised the preparations
All waiting for you this Halloween night
With their spooky and wicked expectations

The Devil Took Suit

by

Doni Gleaton

I met the devil on a sea blue night
Swimming the waves of a realm unnoted
With the air of a don so polite

Oh folklore of the blazing inferno, he set out to bedevil me
I sought refuge in the banks of my own secluded secrecy

I met the devil who blandished all
Spinning his web of chicanery
That unfroze statues completely enthralled

Oh folklore of the blazing inferno, he set out to bedevil me
I sought refuge in the banks of my own secluded secrecy

I met the devil on banks of golden red
Scheming the minds of weaker souls
Who lived as though they were dead

Oh folklore of the blazing inferno, he set out to bedevil me
I sought refuge in the banks of my own secluded secrecy

I met the devil in the river of my thoughts
Cruising along depths of forbidden
That my dreams unconsciously sought

Oh folklore of the blazing inferno, he set out to bedevil me
My feet took flight before he stole my thoughts inanimately

Leaving

by

Doni Gleaton

Looking, I wonder
What road is that?
Winding, turning
Forever moving away
Reflections of lights
Bouncing off of glass
Shadows shaping the way
For wheels up ahead
Through the night
The fenders accelerate
The sole occupant
Watching red and white lights
Illuminate the way they came from
Which road is that?
Oh yeah, the road home
Is now just a reflection?
In the rear view glass

Stanzas of One

by

Doni Gleaton

Psychedelic forms show when my eyes I close
Igniting shadows with a candle’s glow
Performing exquisitely the parts they played
When my eyes were wide open and betrayed

Now moving mountains with my mind
I also call upon the winds to intertwine
To raise my spirit to not be undone
When I solemnly review my stanzas of one

I Wish

Tossing a coin with a wish into the well
I heard a laugh like a tinkling bell
Peering over the edge I saw looking up at me
A pixie little face with fairy wings
I said what do you see when you look up at me?
She said I see you looking down at a fairy
My penny she caught and tossed back to me
Telling me to make a wish and count to three
Out of the water ripples musical notes did arise
Catching my wish with little fairy flies
My wish was granted from where the fairy dwells
In the fountain of the wishing well

Inward Ballad

by

Doni Gleaton

Something calls my name
In this looking glass of life
Or maybe just some magic particles
A collection of colored backgrounds
Called up from the sea

Unexplained the silver moon
Thunders in the atmosphere
While my imprisoned splendor
Looks for an exit door
When the virgin dawn awakens

My teardrops are vessels
That sing my song
Of pleasures made visible
With raindrops like bubbles
From the radiant sky

Sitting on a cloud of a hurricane
Dancing with moonbeams
Dust shaped tears flow
With a forever yearning passion
If love is giving I have loved

Tears Vs Rain

by

Doni Gleaton

A hundred raindrops and a million tears ago
One lonely night you were just gone on the train
I don't know why you left me, I loved you for so long
People are watching me walk, my tears mix with the rain

Is she crying, or is that the rain?

The rain keeps pouring down hiding my tears
Soaking my soul and with the rain in my shoes
On this cold drenching, lonely day as I walk alone
Praying for any word, person or any news

Is she crying, or is that the rain?

As I pass all our favorite spots wondering
What went wrong, cannot bear the unknowing
I see the bench where we held hands
I feel the warm stream of tears still flowing

Is she crying, or is that the rain?

I think about yesterday, just the day before
As I cry under a tree, leaves wet with soaking rain
A hundred raindrops and a million tears ago
You were here, why would you leave and not explain?

I silently tell the people watching and wondering
Is she crying, or is that the rain?
Yes these are tears with a prayer that I’ll find you
With answers about why and who’s to blame

The Wishing Tree

by

Doni Gleaton

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mama
About the wishing tree

Her answer was
Stop dreaming child
And go rake the leaves

I ran outside
Quickly, dutifully
To do as she bid

I piled the wishing leaves
In a secret pile
And in these I hid

Through the cracks
And crevices of sunlight
I saw dancing leaves drop

Lying on my back
Looking, straining
Seeing all the way to the top

The leaves danced
And waltzed about
With the afternoon breeze

Dotted with the sun
Mixing in the wind
Softly falling around me

I threw other leaves
From the ground
Way into the air

They settled all over me
And made a halo
For my hair

When I was just a little girl
My mama asked
Are you raking those leaves?

I answered her
By saying yes mama
I am wishing at my tree

N're Not E're

by

Doni Gleaton

Once upon a time you lifted my heart
To the heights of the clouds
Where the trails of told gods impart
Promises made not unlike divine prophesies
Alerted my blinded senses
To the path of your foretold history
Backtracking and checking abound
I did not just simply let you go
I was woman enough not to keep you around

Untitled

by

Doni Gleaton

He sat in the darkened room
Shadows lit with soft candlelight
A movement caught his eyes
A shadow dressed in white

With a mist she flowed into the room
Like she had done so many times
Unheard music floated around her
His soul imprisoned by phantom chimes

Thinking he heard her call his name
Holding his head in his hands
Tortured feelings falling
Seething thru his mind like sand

Picturing her sitting across the room
Lounging lazily half undressed
She haunted the air waves
He was a man possessed

She crossed the room to sit on his lap
As she had done so many times
He said, "Let me lock and hold you"
She said "Lock and load baby" and blew his mind

She stood and unfolded herself from his arms
Removing her finger from the trigger of the gun
She watched the blood droplets gathered about
Walked from the room, her deed was done

Welcome Back Me

by

Doni Gleaton

You never hung the moon
Or offered me a star
Though you stole my golden sun
Took it to horizons oh so far
I followed the blazing trail
Hung the moon myself
Grabbed a fleeing star
Reclaimed my sun from yourself
Sent you to the horizons
Where you took my golden rays
Hung a hi-5 with Mr. Moon
And forgot you today
