The Kiss

by

Carolyn Fortney-Davis

She didn't mean to stop and stare,
At the young couple standing there,
Clinging to one another so desperately,
Their pain and love clear to see.
As they kissed, kissed and kissed again,
Trying to fit a lifetime of kisses in.
The young man's face full of fears,
The girl's face, wet with tears.
Would they have the life they planned?
Or would he die on foreign land?
The bus pulled in, he climbed on,
With a wave of his hand,
Her soldier was gone.
