Delight

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Her words, with her smile wishing me well,
A knowing that I found a life again,
Walking with her in that smooth summer rain,
The girl's eyes, dark, casting a spell.
The moon as we gaze up and see,
A future bright as silver stars,
The roundabout with it's swirling cars,
Just this old world and you and me.

Moon

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Lunatic belonging,
Only to the nights,
The shadows and the darkness,
Troubled feverish souls,

The ways to inspire,
Solemly, serene,
Poets of all ages,
Praising, loving you,

A sort of a temptation,
Hangs yellow, high above,
The lonely wayward wolfman,
Looking up to cry,

Songs and myths and fables,
Concentrating on-
-The wicked and the gentle,
That single silent moon.

Wordsparks

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Words, in a frenzy flying,
Words and whispers in a rage of dying-
-Alone.
Simple or crazy and complex,
Conveying all to one with ears,
Nothing to those with none,
Stones of verbal structures remain,
Amid the rivers in my mind,
All the world's asleep right now,
And dreams of heroic verse,
Myths of monsters, praise of psalms,
Intermingle, intertwine,
Thoughts and mystic powersparks,
All from one sacred fire,
Locked away inside,
Glowing, burning, glowing, fading,
Rest a while with me,
We sit and hardly need to speak,
Conversing none the less,
And heartfelt wishes, aspirations,
Keep on pouring into you,
Into me,
Give me one good reason,
Not to simply love you,
Stars and age old moon above,
Witness to this thing,
To say it is to do,
And act upon the stage.

Out into the Night

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Word for word, the stories told
Shine with vowels made from gold
They speak of ancient times
In lines which cast in rhymes
The episodes of ages
Saints and kind old sages
Softly speaking by a fire
A promised journey of desire
Echooing inside
Where memory must hide
From rest to fury swing my moods
While longing to be in the woods
Running wild and free
With all of nature there to see
My unknown destination
A heavenly sensation
Glowing in the dark
The aura of a spark
The centre of the storm
Where forceful dreams take form
I willingly surrender
To this magic merry splendour
A truly blissful state
With no need to debate
The reasons for this glory
While now my mindful story
Must come towards the end
Where stars their light do send
Out into the night.

Tripping

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Tripping through the dark-veiled hour,
Slipping on the red-scent flower,
Tired and yet smiling.

Greeting house guests at the door,
Eyes turned slowly to the floor,
Offer them a beverage.

Making gestures, proud and free,
Self-assured, oh can you see
The energy within?

Chocolate cookies on a tray,
Thinking of what else to say,
To minds that will not come along,
With inner motions, feeling strong.

Alone and quiet in the room,
A sense of well approaching gloom,

The forceful strength of younger days,
Now covered in a well-known haze,
And sleep will come at last.

Mercy

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Could ever one so fine as thee,
Come near to me and truly see,
What makes me shiver in the night,
And gives me smiles at dawn's sweet light?
Thy mercy breaks my passion free.

If once in life thou camst my way,
I would fall down and start to pray,
To all the angels in the sphere,
That thou wouldst not yet leave me here,
Instead that thou wouldst say:

"Thy path, it was a weary one,
Hiding from the touch of the sun,
And moonlight could not reach thee,
In bitter tears thou couldst not see me,
Now, here at lasts, thy life has begun."

Galaxy Inferno

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Smashing crystal vessels,
Firestorm of sparks,
The planets; fiery angels,
A demonhost of stars,
All is lost, forsaken,
Or will a phoenix reappear?
A lonely world of feelings,
Of hurt and sorry heartache,
Wants desperately to remain,
Cold habitats in outer space,
Robots socializing in sparse spare time,
Can no one interfere?
The sounds are soft or deafening,
All depending on your taste,
And sensibility,
Solving riddles as we go,
Pray for chance, for hope- and so,
Escape from all our fears,
At once the sun explodes,
A glittering final prize,
Dissolving all around he screams,
And fiery tears rain down.

My Beautiful Angel

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Lying there, with me, asleep,
The world is your friend right now,
The days have gone when we would weep,
In love we never wonder how,

This night alone makes us unique,
Angelic lovers; the pair of us,
Entwined as one, a single physique,
We feel one heartbeat, loud and thus-

-We sleep until we recover,

The morning brings a pleasant dawn,
The birds are at their play,
As I watch you stretch and yawn,
I find the words I want to say:

I am your own eternal lover,
Shall be right by your side,
My love will form a lover's den,
Where in love we both may hide,
The days are pleased to greet us,
The stars at night will meet us,
And love is here to stay.

Starlit Creatures

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

I travelled far away in my mind,
Beyond the stars, behind the moon,
There was water, there were trees,
And from their branches rich fruits hanging,
Gleaming in the light of a gentle love,
Further down, or up, who knows?
I floated as if dreaming calmly,
There was not a trace of fear or sorrow,
Nothing but a caring heart,
And the promise of love in store,
All the starlit creatures there,
Know love is light in life.

At Night

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Your loving touch, your subtle skin,
Linger here with me,
Our lives had only to begin,
Love's future yet to be.

Stars and moon, dazzling and bright,
Looking down on us,
Your eyes reflect the love and light,
And I would love you thus:

In the evening when it rains,
In the Summer too,
In the morning with a smile,
Words but only few,
In the afternoon as well,
Warm inside and nice,
In Midwinter for a spell,
While our loving melts the ice,

I would love you all the days,
In a thousand different ways,
When you wake up, try to say:
"I need you with me, will you stay?"

Being

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

I am the dust that covers the trees,
I am the words you hear in the breeze,
I am a monk, enclosed in a cell,
I am the wind and the water as well,
I am a hunter admiring his prey,
I am the words I don't even say,
I am a windmill revolving around,
I am the centre that never was found,
I am a shepard, asleep on a hill,
I am a dreamer with dreams to fulfil,
I am a building with giant black stones,
I am a human of blood, skin and bones,
I am the lake in which you would not swim,
I am the mood when the twilight grows dim,
I am a bullet, shot out of a gun,
I am the moon and the stars and the sun.

I am a nightmare with cold drops of sweat,
I am the throne on which I never sat,
I am the sunset that never was seen,
I am a creature who always has been,
I am a raven with little dark eyes,
I am the evil and innocent lies,
I am the Summer when Summer has gone,
I am the moment before a new dawn,
I am a thought which is not said out loud,
I am a warrior, handsome and proud,
I am a forest that stretches too far,
I am a precious and meaningful star.

Sacred Mind

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

All around my sacred mind,
A mediocre world I find,
Where genius is not required,
But merely grudgingly admired,
Ancient storms and modern fears,
Leave humanity in tears,
Unequal to the task ahead,
Their highest aspirations dead,
Consuming seems the last of laws,
Is opening some awkward doors,
Behind which lie no reason,
But violence and treason,
And horrors never seen before,
Are waiting -yet to come- in store.

Green Eyes

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Here there is no secrecy,
No whisper'd cunning lies,
Our match is made on ecstasy,
While loneliness subsides.

Green fields almost match your eyes,
An eloquence of light,
At night I hear your peaceful sighs,
And my love for you takes flight.

A world of love now opens up,
The wide expanse: our lives,
A nicely overflowing cup,
While hope in love survives.

These days of Spring seem without end,
The flowers, trees around,
Afternoons of bliss we spend,
In something grand we found.

Watch for symbols in the skies,
Birds of prey in love,
They are my love's own wishful spies,
Shall watch you from above.

Until with a smile I shall return,
Love's fires high will burn.

Phosphorous

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Oh Phosphorous, thy beauty's name,
Bold and brilliant, bright and red,
Thine ancient titles still the same,
Curiously old and wise,
Capable of great surprise,
A silence after all's been said.

The Morningstar when stars have gone,
A twist in lapsing time,
The breaking of a final dawn,
Knowledge, pure and crystal clear,
Incarnated mortal fear,
Mountains left to climb?

Adversity, an awkward friend,
The rope untying rope,
A flash and then unending end,
My best companion ever,
My bonds are here to sever,
And up the creeping slope.

This Poetry

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

This poetry which comes in bursting waves of exultation,
Is the purest of imaginable kinds of elevation,
To a sphere where no more lie dormant powers of the mind,
Where in stead the traveller has all the worlds and more to find,

It is here where I have been before I ever came to be,
It is here where I shall be when I have nowhere left to flee,
In my words I must convey my inner self in every way,
In the morning is a warning of what may pass the coming day,

And the force, the gentle force with which kind memories prevail,
Makes me do believe I found myself some sort of holy grail,
Or at least a brilliant feast or some silent inner prize,
Or a thought, the clearest thought of more than merely human size,

All the angels in the Heavens who have gone astray unite,
And pour out your hearts of fire into me here while I write,
I shall mingle with your words all the sounds that I have known,
And shall leave them here so solidly, almost as if cut in stone.

The Mad Prince

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Dressed in dazzling golden veils,
The Prince arrives at night,
His royal barge with large black sails,
To me a vision of delight,
A wondrous child is he,
Who lives inside a dream,
Whole-heartedly a part of me,
And more so it would seem,
As frightning Winter comes along,
The passing of my time,
Grows frantic, bold and strong,
A tower I must climb,
The palace isolated,
And measures undebated,
The qualities of power,
In a single stretching hour,
The legendary throne,
On which one sits alone,
A promise I can see,
And status fit for me,
The lord of my insanity,
Supreme distorted being,
For me in all its clarity,
A different way of seeing,
The talents of a fool,
Lie hidden in a well,
When stirred this ancient pool,
Can bring Heaven and raise hell,
His speech is strange and still,
He has his thinking heard,
There is no rest until,
We have the perfect word,
The frontiers of the mind,
Beyond which I have strayed,
Not always have been kind,
With infancy I played,
The mad prince in his quarters,
An eerie night at hand,
The rippling of the waters,
Before they touch on land.

Intoxications

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Turmoil and intoxications,
A host of different sensations,
Light begetting light.

The tower black against a morbid sky,
Imposing thoughts on passers-by,
I hear a weeping sound.

The sweetest fragrance in the air,
Invites me to renounce despair,
And smile upon my life.

A darkened pool within me draws-
-Me down into a world of flaws,
Where I can barely breathe.

Angelic voices, crystal clear,
Accompany a gliding tear,
Such beauty to behold.

Forgetting what I once have known,
So joyously my mind was blown.

One by one I live my days,
Moving in the strangest ways.

Sun

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Brilliant blaze-Inferno,
For those who come too close,
A genuine giver of life itself,
Companion to the rain.

Unique and glorious deity,
How would it be called,
If not by that solar name,
Fiery breathing rays.

I looked into the Eye,
And saw my self reflected,
This mirror in the sky,
The warmth that it ejected.

Central focus, inner sight,
My fondest thoughts for you,
Majestic royal light,
I know the heart is blue.

Motley Paradise

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

We set a course by stars unknown
To those whose lives are not their own,
And travel ever onwards

We pass a speck of land at night
Where trees and towers are in sight,
Of the two-fold crew

The vessel is an ancient one
And looks like chestnut in the sun,
The bowsprit pointing forwards

Down below we pour the wine
Sending sparkles down my spine,
We do what we must do

When evening comes the gulls return
Your kisses something I shan't spurn,
I welcome them with glee

And over on the starboard side
A threatened sea-ghost tries to hide,
And thinks I cannot see

We come upon a foreign land
Our ship lies on the final strand,
We leave our friendly partner

We build a shelter in the trees
And thank the gods, both on our knees,
That we have found this place
To start our single splendid race,
In motley paradise.

Stranger

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

A stranger into paradise,
The blessing is no small surprise
To someone with a guilty heart,
Who now knows that he too forms part
Of the fall and rise.

The way toward it lies unseen
Between the rough shapes, strange and green,
And trees don't offer cover
To loved one and the lover,
Yet splendid is the final scene.

Where sparkling waters bursting through,
The stone-rimmed walls 'round me and you,
Quench thirst we built up all along,
The way which made us both so strong
This place is Love, all fine and true.

We play like children in the Spring,
Both nude we hear a cherub sing
The gentle breeze is quite divine
My life is yours, your heart is mine,
Our treasure is a silver ring

Which shimmers in your hand,
The first thing when we found this land,
A blackbird could not steal
What linked-up lovers now can feel
While lying on the sand.

Our days are joyously serene
And quiet words are whisper'd here,
By trees and plants all gather'd 'round
The central crystal pond.

Fragments

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Fragments of sailors with ghosts in their eyes,
Drowning in sorrowful drops of delight,
Moments of drinking in harbour town bars,
Watching the waves with the ripple of night,
Overhead millions of beautiful stars,
Lights in the darkness of heavenly skies.

Oak wooden tree with its nasty old roots,
Leading into the underground found,
Tangling and tingling, branches intertwine,
Sometimes is heard the familiar sound,
The crunch of the tusks of the powerful swine,
Or Pan with his mystical magical flutes.

Poisonous Flowers

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Far beyond the flimsy veil of things in normal ways perceived,
Lies a land of awkward wonders that has many times deceived,
Lonely pilgrims who had reached so far that they could not turn 'round,
Where in stead for parts unknown they found themselves forever bound.

Poisonous flowers with a fragrance which is absolutely kind,
May be marvelled at within these regions of my wayward mind,
Where in streams these vivid dreams of days ago come rolling through,
All the force of still remorse and quaint restraint starts to pursue.

The ambitions gathered in a life of solitude divine,
And the wishes that I keep which I may honestly call mine,
Vanishing before me is my latest sense of certainty,
And wholeheartedly I do agree with my own destiny.

For at last the anchors cast are hoisted and we are away,
On towards a once promised and delivered splendid day,
In the river, in a shiver, is reflected my own face,
The last, the very last one of a legendary race.

Ode to my Demon Lover

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Shaping, shifting, deep dark, blue
Lethal, fatal, like some shark
Moving upward gracefully
Perhaps to drag me down
Feminine ferocity, dressed in pleasant curves
Eyes which hold my history
Know me, see and feel
Envious of the human state perchance

I see a charm that overwhelms me
Unexpected sounds
Overhead: a vacancy
A private, gentle hope

Letting go in quietude
Experiencing what?
The message seems ridiculous
And therefore may be true

Life is all there is in here
And everything here IS
A spirit of the netherworld
Rose up to steal my heart.

Sleep

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Nine waves came rolling down,
The King had lost his crown,
The rivers running wild,
A lost and crying child,
A window in a storm,
A strange and vague new form,
Thoughts slip out of reach,
A lesson learned to teach,
A nightmare,dark and cold,
A secret never told,
The rain upon some roof,
A horse's scraping hoof,
The grass with tiny drops,
The heart an instant stops,
And mildly comes to mind,
An experience so kind,
That it made all things well,
Now nothing left to tell,
I turn and fall asleep.

Lightning

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Lightning strikes inside my brain
My life now rearranged
How petty cares and waistful years persist
To hold me down, I suffocate,
My words are mixed with doubts and fears
And nothing dares come near
In times of trouble, auld lang syne,
Fill me up, daddio!
Could you even consider me
As someone worth an hour, or a smile,
A kind faint recollection
Of something older, greater
Than your everyday cares?
We could go hunting, you and I
I would track you down
And run away from you,
Both hunter and prey at once
As if we were some brilliant piece of organic machinery,
Interdependent and so on.
Forgive me for dreaming,
I know you are dreaming too.

Ecstasy

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Lovely lively fragrancies,
Summer's outburst end,
My senses; love's own agencies,
My heart and mind may blend,
Into a sun/moon creature,
Who continues with a smile,
I praise this morning's feature,
Which seems to, does beguile,
A million thoughts race through my mind,
I marvel at the globe,
I look, and seek, and find,
Still sitting in my robe,
The dawn usurps a faded moon,
The first sounds of the day,
I know that very, very soon,
I'll find the words with which to say,
How much I love this sphere and you,
Intend to always remain true,
Give me caresses, kisses kind,
It's you I'll always need to find.

You

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

So many years I lived alone,
Allowed my strange and wayward heart
To slowly turn to stone,
You came back into this life of mine,
Tore the walls of solitude apart,
And presented me with a sign-
-Of your immens love for little ole me,
Delivering a sense of joy and bliss,
A future bright I could not before see,
You are love and life, and love is this:
To see you dream of pleasant things,
You answering the phone when a friend rings,
See you come into the door,
Hear you ask for more,
More of my love for you, more of me,
I am so happy here, with you, in love and free,
Unexpected happiness comes over me,
When I wake up and it's you I see,
Smiling, yawning once more, and then-
-A gentle little kiss, an embrace,
I love to see your pretty face,
Lying there happy, next to me.

Summer Lake

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

I sat a while by a Summer lake,
Where there was genuine peace to be found,
And listened to the world out there,
There were birds flying about, squeeking,
A lovely dragonfly hovered over the waters rippling,
Unseen frogs kept bellowing their weird sounds,
The green of the trees, the freshness in the air,
It made me feel like youth again,
It made me think of a thousand different things,
But I could not focus, just daydreaming,
Dreaming the day away,
Dreaming,
Today.

Einzelganger

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Words are stone and here forever
We were alone and we shall never
Grow tired of our self-made worlds,
On oceans of pleasure we sail together
And nights are never dark
And no one stands alone,
In the streets outside our hearts,
Nothing moves or falls apart.

Swans

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Gentle knowing ghostlike creatures,
White angelic forms glide,
Through crisp clear water,
Display most elegant features,
And by some oasis hide.
I watch this scene from within a train,
Off to work, speeding by,
That one there must be God's own daughter,
Longing to see Him again,
The smallest one tries to fly.

Life Is All There Is

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Save a thought at the end of the day,
Think of love, just for a moment,
Drink in the stuff of life, and dream,
While waking, growing old,
And persevere.
The point of life is life itself,
So simple, yet complex,
Do not analyse and rationalize,
Just breathe, think, and dream,
Until at long last it may seem,
Life is all there is.

We Were Lovers

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

There she walked,
All bright lights and sunshine,
Soft angelic sounds around her,
And me relieved to have found her,
Her eyes of green seemed divine,
Lateron we talked
About love, life and love lost,
Sighting her anguish, I placed a kiss,
Upon her gentle brow,
She never wondered how,
Or if our aquaintance would go amiss,
We were lovers at all cost.

Moving Muse

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Insanely exciting
The priestess starts to move
Rhythm sweeps me up and down
Spinning 'round the ruins
White feet placed on demon's wings
Her head a serpent's crown,

Eyes that burn a whole in me
And watch the world inside
Howling winds of yesterday
Evaporate to hide
Doubtless countless aeons flow
In and out of night
Dead red moon still snarling down
Siren song from nowhere sings
Face devoid, a frown.

Image

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Stark, the image sticks
in a mind frozen in time.
Silently a picture moves
in and out of my mind:
a knife-edge on a hilltop.
Am I still dreaming aloud?
Sound and vision intermixe,
dangle and intertwine.
A strange old voice from nowhere near,
comes closer only to disappear.
I wish for this to stay by my side,
forever there when I need to hide.
Drops of Summer rain pervade
everything in sight.
Still the morning warns us now
take care but be not afraid.
Those who lost and those who strayed
Reunite in this simple image:
A brook, a gentle stream
leading to the generous sea.

Butterfly

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

On the station, on a dreary deadly morning,
Creepy commuters crawl,
Edgy, weary, unwilling to work today.
Listening to the things some of them say-
-I suddenly notice a fluttering by,
Of a wonderful cheery butterfly;
Gold-tipped wings, floating in and out,
Of my misty morning mind.
In its presence is all that I would find,
In life and love and feeling light-
-Hearted, free and easy.
Somehow strengthened, I board the train,
Off to work and happy once again.

Safe

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

The world turns, while you are asleep,
Your inner most, cared-for dreams
In my heart of hearts I'll keep,
I watch your closed eyes, carelessly,
You breathing in life and love, and me,
I'll keep you safe from them out there,
It's you for whom I will always care,
So stay here with me, safe from harm,
The world cannot touch you, not tonight,
I caress your hair, smooth in this silver light,
And think of all the days gone by,
Then you turn and gently sigh,
All I wanted is right here,
The world still turns,
I will keep you near.

Stargazer II

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

That night, that silly Summer's night,
he walked outside in a funny sort of mood,
Was transfixed at once by the dazzling light,
of a million stars; Diana's ancient brood.
He saw his soul transformed in this,
array of pecks of light,
He hoped that he would never miss,
the memory of this sacred sight,
Wonderful silly night of stars,
strange silver Moon, hanging high above,
Rays of light; no prison's bars,
he bathed in light and breathed love,
Tender years, petty fears,
vanishing away like melting ice,
Or sofly drying birthday tears,
until he once again felt nice.

Clear

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Wished for love to come my way,
Always knew just what to say,
Yet then I found I had no sound,
To utter or to work around,
In order that I might describe,
The joy that was your loving vibe.
You came to me when I was low,
And needed so much more to grow
Into what I knew I could be,
One day would be, certainly should be.
I watched you dress in Summer whites,
Our passionate days and love-drenched nights
Were all I ever wanted.

Stay with me for I love you,
And I will be forever near,
Through Winter's sting and skies of blue,
There is not anything to fear,
So stay with me, my mind is clear.

in my mind

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

In my mind there is a place,
I can go there day after day,
Its big and large,
It might be more than eight thousand yards,
It is island with many trees,
sourrounded by monkeys and many secret keys,
play with the dolphins act like them too,
you can swim many hours with out any body bothering you,
you feel the best in my palce,
yes you do,
you can do any thing yahoo

Thrill

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

As early morning sounds break in
Dust lingers from years ago
Mist covers the garden, while
Little creatures try to smile.

Curtains twitch, eager for the day
Twilight milkman beats the postman
Footsteps on my ancient soul
Timid sun steps up to greet.

Just to merely be alive
Revel in the energies
Just to breathe, inspire, survive
My past and my own maladies.

The Tide

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

We should be without a trace
In some exotic timid place
Where memories won't grow to haunt
And daily dismal thoughts can't taunt

Surrounded by a dream of sleep
In which I'll fight the night to keep ~
You safe within a sphere of light
To see a new day dawn's delight

To celebrate the evening's peace
And huddle underneath that fleece
That ever was from times long past
Please sit with me, this hour won't last.

Salacious Endeavour

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Left on the sandy headland;
a scarf, a joke and two smiles

Sent to the mainland;
lizard imagery and frozen home-made pretension

Moved to the next realm;
sanity, self-assurance

Unwrapped on the last day;
masonic messages, omens..

Evening Song

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Dream unraveled, thought provoked,
Slowly mesmerizing sun awakes.
Hearts in feeble hopes still cloaked,
Earthly tremors, celestial shakes.

Forever bound by clay-like chains,
Signals still reach down within.
Each breath evokes a world of pains,
We dream and long to flee from sin.

Spring returns to bring to mind
Renewal of our hopeful vows.
I peruse the joys I find
In holly bush and vernal boughs.

Procession

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Slow heavy melodies swing
with the team of bulls along the road
Mary swings from side to side
within her silver house on wheels
Piety on cobblestones
early moon comes peeping
Dreamlike chants reach up to touch
a host of golden starlets bright
Banners wave with signs of faith,
love and adherence to grand designs
So, at once we move along
at one with vibes both proud and still
we'll sleep alright tonight.

Sunset Frenzy

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Revelled in themselves and the ever-dwindling day that day
Thoughts collided with waves rolling in from barely-known continents

Stars were early and came to see the sun for once
A giant smile drawn like vapour trails across the stark-blue skies

Sand was a carpet for toes to wiggle about in
Music was water rippling, greeting and meeting the land

Playful creatures gathered where whispers lingered
Yawns of languid pleasure pointed the way

Up ahead on the dunes, a sea gull sang songs
Of raucous endeavour, adventures in store

Nothing was left and all had partaken
That day on the beach the cynics were shaken

Evening arrived like a blanket of hope
The moon asked the sea to attempt to elope.

As I peer into those love-bound emerald eyes
In glorious rapture you hand me paradise.
Dreams are made flesh with your smile of a kiss
While I never suspected such heavenly bliss.
A river of thoughts wants to drift back to you
Like a flower awaiting dawn's new early dew.
For it's true that our inner selves hide in disguise
In glorious rapture you hand me paradise.
I could never, in earnest, attempt to dismiss
Such happiness as found in a love such as this.
When we love all the colours unite and turn blue
And I feel that it's right that I need to pursue.
As we celebrate agony's expected demise
In glorious rapture you hand me paradise.

Afterglow

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Sleeptalked my way through ever-changing mind moods
self; elated at living, breathing and
feeling golden blood-creatures soar
through artery highways and broncheal byways,
ever faster, lighter and
lightheadedly bold..

Told my stories to the night
whispered at the moon,
clear silver disc, crimson-rimmed
stark omen tensions.

Grand illusions of the blissful kind
tied my soul to the star-filled firmament,
a glowing string of after-thoughts,
noughts and crosses on a cosmic blackboard,
night school, and we down here,
hardly ever paying attention.

Caution

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

To the wind, if possible,
Unnerve your deepest self, resist
your feeble little notions,
those tensions pressed down
by intruding life..
I watched a train pulling an elephant;
tired from carrying the world's dreams,
its mega-memory like lead on grey shoulders.

In turn it blew its horn to save the train its whistle.
