I cannot cry or smile.

by

Peter Leonard Cox

I'm quite upset. My Aunty's dead, and I can't cry.
In Outer Space, your tears can form but cannot fall.
It's worse than that for me, because my eyes stay dry.
The funeral's next week. Here's me- can't cry at all.
A tearduct problem needs correction straight away.
Can this be done? My operation is today.

My wedding soon, and yet I simply cannot smile.
My doctor says I need a facial muscle trial.
To make the muscles work is quite a daunting task,
and if it can't be done, I will not wear a mask.
I'd really love to smile. It is a dreadful shame,
but if I should look glum, I cannot be to blame.
