The Arbour

by

Mike Cooper

Even when
on powerful legs
my mind strides
through
dust and dead leaves
to the seat
in the Arbour
where the others are
I know the smell
of the Infirmary.

Something happened
to my legs
a long time ago
and the waiting
has not helped.

Perhaps
when I reach
the Arbour
and take my seat
They will explain the waiting.

Seeing the Arbour
from the Infirmary
turned my mind
into an eye.
Lying here
How could I not
want to go?
After the pain
my mind has
powerful legs
