Step Lively They Say

by

Joshua Colby

Step lively they say
Maybe I wanna
Break the rules today
Aim high always
What if I'm happy
Just where I'am I say
Reah for the top
When they get there
they refuse to stop
And they step
And they break, never stop
Step lively they say
Maybe I wanna
STOP
Maybe I wanna
Stop and smell the roses today

Entrails of a Slow Mouse

by

Joshua Colby

My muse has been robbed of her senses
and incensed me to pay a thousand penances
Left me with meager table scraps
to starve myself on to gorge myself
on cockroaches and other scurriers I can catch
perhaps I can find a fable in the
entrails of a slow mouse living in my wall
Once I read an epic fantasty in a lady bug's heart
and begging on dirty knees allowed to take part
Last night I saw a tabby cat round and fat
deceptively quick I chased him hoping that
I would perhaps find a poem to buy plane ticket home
But found I was plagued by tumors on my ass
and foul humors hiding in broken glass
My muse has been robbed of her senses
and incensed me to pay a thousand penances

Busted Jeans

by

Joshua Colby

threats and insults
hence demeaned
me wearing nothing
but busted blue jeans
and i told a lie once
and she told a lie
more than once and
once upon a time
got my mojo in tune
with my rhyme
do you hear what i'm saying
you've got your game playing
and your stereo turned loud
beating fists proud
banging heads in the clouds
who am i who are you
what the hell was i supposed to do
threats and insults
hence demeaned
me wearing nothing
but a ring and
busted blue jeans

As we Find Truth in Magic

by

Joshua Colby

As a wind, as a whisper
As we fall apart
Become aware and because
Maybe a little callous of heart
Go to great length
To remain of and gain a little strength
Memories sometimes lie and exageratte
But magic can't die even if life agitates
As a leaf, as a whistle
As the fabric dreams are made of
Become confused and because
At the same time found and abused
Go to war
To change place that life does not remain poor
Kiss the faerie, awe at the gold you've struck
Be merry when you've danced with Lady Lukc
As a wind, as a whisper
As we find truth in magic
