Ode to us

by

Michel Du Chaussee

The distance between us grows as wide
as the great Atlantic divide
between the old world and the new
and with no more words to say
Silence is the only sound.
Around

This bed, once a haven of nuptial bliss
now seems a raft that is hopelessly adrift
tossed and turned on a sea of sorrow
with no tomorrow.

At what time did we cut the cords of love
that once bound us... I cannot say
only it seemed I loved you yesterday.
Pity

This story doesn't have a happy ending
as the fairy tales of childhood days
soon we will go on our separate ways.
Farewell
