Reflections

by

Channel-Hawkins

What do you say, What do you do?
When you see reflections of you.
You are amazed at the likeness with reminders of how things use to be,
You stare, study and wonder is it you that you really see,
You are bewildered because you thought that all of you was uniquely your own,
You are mesmerized by the thought that it has been pass on,
You carefully watch and feel joy at the thought,
Your good qualities and joy have been caught,
In a free spirit of someone young at heat,

What do you say, What do you do?
When you see reflection of you.
You hold out your hand and offer to quide,
You step ever so lightly and try not to slide,
Knowing from experience, if one moves to fast,
The wonders of life will soon become the past,
You try to give warnings of tricky things to come,
You then realize you teaching career has begun,
You want to give lessons in all the things you know,
Without revealing your mistakes to your young pupil,
For in some ways they have travel so far pass you,
And in so many things, you know they don't have a clue,

What do you say, What do you do?
When you see reflection of you.
You show concern, understanding and love most of all,
With each of their successful steps or a failing fall,
You let them know that you truly understand,
That some things that are happening was not in their plan,
You scream, "Here's my hand, please don't let go,
For soon you'll see and be able to grow,
Into someone who has wisdom and the knowledge to understand,
How to be wise enough to one day give someone else a helping hand,

So, What do you say, What do you do?
When you see reflections of you.
You say watch, listen take notes and learn,
But don't be afaid to try the things you yearn,
You may slip and slide and stumble and fall,
But those things will help you when you get your call,
So take what you need and discard what you must,
Because you have my love and my trust,
That when the time comes you'll know what to do,
When you start to see reflections of you.
