Gypsy's Photo Gallery

a cold mid-winter

by

Sue Castro

ice cracks burning fingers
the breath sears with hoar

a river frozen in motion
white and hard
takes on cautious venture

icicles pour drops of static water
over roof-tops
and window-casings

dark grey skies
laden with new hour's snow
weigh down in crystals

freezing birds peck in vain
at iron ground...
famished and thirsty
waiting for a friendly hand
to prolong survival

a cold traveller thrusts
rugged hands in thread-bare rags
willing the dawn of tomorrow...

O Mar

by

Sue Castro

Conchas limadas quebram-se
contra rochedos salgados...

Ondas, sete sobre sete,
milénio sobre milénio, avançam
contra terras que não suspeitam
e recuam de novo...

Barcos impudentes atravessam
o liquido sustentante,
corrosivo e traiçoeiro...

Horizontes vastos arastam sonhos,
atraem novas mentes,
dividem familias...

Tudo volta para o mar...
civilizações; detritos;
rios sangrentos;
-e dai tudo e lavado,
esquecido, enterrado...

Quem somos nós?
Gotas do mar do universo,
sem paradeiro, na nossa viagem
sem fim? Ou somos um oceano
de gente, que junto pode fazer
milagres, mover montanhas,
derrubar odios?...

Somos o que somos,
-como o mar...
Uma criação de um Ser
que nos ama, que nos
guarda, e que nunca nos castiga...
Quem nos castiga
somos nos proprios,
como o mar
que se castiga
a si proprio,
evaporando quando
a sua existência
deixou de ter sentido,
-deixando pô branco,
purificante e nutritivo...

Why?

by

Sue Castro

Why were we born
so healthy, wealthy
wrapped in oh-so
pink cotton-clouds?

We're not land-locked
war-torn
faceless srabblers
for wheat seeds
in desert storms.

Why?
JUST BECAUSE...

We're bright
and we're ready
for a fight.

We'll send the
threateners
to 'paradise'
and we'll always
be strong
because we're
JUST THE BEST

Why?
JUST BECAUSE...

We won't listen
to children crying
in the dust
because for us
they're too remote
to even be...

So we'll switch
off our ears
and pay heed to
what we're told
-and all will be
JUST THE WAY IT WAS

Why?
JUST BECAUSE...
(someday maybe we'll all need better answers...)
