Soup for One

by

Michael Caridi

An intelligent woman
once told me,
She felt most alone
when
she purchased soup for one.
I feel most alone
When the only thing
that i have
to accompany me
are
my thoughts.
this is because
it gives me time,
to think
of the past,
present
and future

A day for poets

by

Michael Caridi

At work today
somebody came to me
and said,
"Itís raining outside
but only a little,
Itís so beautiful.
Itís a day for poets."

I remember thinking,
Why?
and just saying nothing,
while nodding
stupidly
like I understood
and agreed.

Not long after
I left work
for the day
and walked
through the rain
with a beautiful woman
to a nearby cafe.

We sat there
and enjoyed the company.
We talked
and laughed,
drank coffee
and
smoked.

Then I lit my last
cigarette,
with my last match
and impressed her
with my story of
how today was a day
for poets.
