And Here I Am

by

Caitlin

You said you'd be back.
You wouldn't be long.
Then you left.
And I believed you.

And there I was,
Sitting in the dark.
All alone.
Waiting for your return.

And the next night, there you were,
Smiling at me from the hall.
You came and sat next to me on the floor.
You pulled me into your warm embrace.

And there we were.
Sitting in the dark.
Together.
And I wasn't waiting anymore.

Another night, about a week after that,
You weren't yourself,you acted strange.
You didn't smile, or sit with me on the floor.
You didn't pull me into your warm embrace like before.

And there we were.
Sitting in the dark.
By ourselves.
And I didn't know what was wrong.

One night later,
You said you'd be back.
You wouldn't be long.
And I believed you.

And there I was.
Sitting in the dark.
All alone.
Waiting for your return.

And the next night, you weren't there.
You didn't smile at me from the hall.
You didn't sit next to me on the floor.
You didn't pull me into your warm embrace.

And there I was.
Sitting in the dark.
Wondering where you were.
Still waiting for your return.

And here I am.
Still sitting in the dark.
All alone.
And I don't believe you.
