Dove of Hope

by

Sheri Burgess

His fingers dance in the light of the moon
The morning dawn will be upon us soon.
I want to be alone with him now
For he will be gone when the sun shines down
His eyes dance under his blood-red bill
All the songs but his stand still
I sit and watch his fingers dance
His music gives the air a very little romance
He is there one night, but never again
Still, I'm here to wait with me time to spend
Knowing full well he's lost forever to me
Still my dove of hope flies out over the sea
I sit and I wait for the soft white's return
So long as she's gone my insides will burn
