Cardboard shelter

by

Pauline Brennan

Another,under a dirty cardboard shelter
Hard to tell how old, worn skin from the bitter and cold
Forgive me please, if my tone sounds blank
When my eyes see this, my heart becomes sank
And left with the question, why in our world
Is all this homelessness so bloody absurd?
I have asked questions and I have scavenged for help
I have seen the artist's impression as the flaw,
in our wealth.
Unacceptable, this just has to be
cardboard shelters are not hard to see.
If you want to,that is, look left and then right
especially into the dark of the night
If you want to, acceptable it seems to be
But cardboard shelters are not hard to see.
