Leaving the Tree

by

Jay Brancheau

My mind knows a place
the place is a room
With a triangular window
Looking upon a field
with one single maple tree
hibernating in the exact center.
It is the most extravagant tree.
Bright green leaves throughout the summer...
Angry claws grabbing at me throughout the winter...
In the spring the leaves grew into glorious bushes...
The colors in the fall, like a psychedelic painting...
Then the leaves all fall: migrate away.
Now we must be leaving the tree.
