Halloween

by

Shannon Bralick

When the moon shines so by night
and the clouds o'erhang so low,
and knots of silver tremble light,
can all be well on earth below?

When cryptic legends rise again
and souls of myth reappear,
is the Gate between Now and Then
reopened in this time of Fear?

When men possessed dance so wild,
and women flee to houses safe,
who heeds now the wailing child
or fends from him the demon wraith?

When does life become its basest?
When are orgies, wild and free?
When does evil seethe in faces?
Why, my child, 'tis Halloween.
