Spring

by

James Birchley

The hail and rain came with a wintry roar,
And drove away my friends without a shout.
My false love left with just a pout.
They broke my house that split from roof to floor;
I had to board it up and lock the door.
I put a sign outside which said "Keep Out",
And threw away the key, and had no doubt
I'd keep the world at bay forever more.

But then you came, with spring, and found the key,
Ignored the sign, and tried to enter in.
Despite my opposition you could see
That pain and loss has led me to this sin
Of self denial. You, persistently,
Approached my heart, and then I let you in.
