true love

by

Vickie Bernatchez

You were my lover, now you're just my friend;
As a lover, I thought the world of you.
Now I think of some of my other friends;
There's one friend I want to describe to you.

He's not as tall as you, but just as sweet;
He doesn't talk much, but I see him more.
He's not whispered sweet nothings in my ear;
He's never come through my bedroom door.

I'm moving on because there's someone new;
I'm surprised to hear you're happy for me.
If the happiness is a clever ruse;
Here's a word of advice from me to you:

Please don't worry about going astray;
I know true love will always find a way.
