QUESTION

by

Reid Baer

I'm
simply
fatigued
as I can be
encompassed
about
within
ennui ...

Has
anyone
seen
my
joie
de
vivre?

RESURRECTION

by

Reid Baer

Difficult repentance
Looks like

Devastating death
Long
before
it

Feels like
Eternal Life.

UNFORCED THINKING

by

Reid Baer

A thousand-strong throng
Thrust itself violently
Against the front wall
Of the US embassy.

The unruly refugees consciously
Pushed toward the public fence
Around the compound
In a bedlam of bellowing sounds -
Desperately pressing their frenzied case.

Amidst the clamor, one slight figure
Unconsciously slipped around behind the camp -
Quietly and unassumingly -
And approached my private entrance.

After respectfully identifying himself to the guard,
He kindly presented an important message to me,
One I had been anticipating
For a long, long time.

THICKET HEAD

by

Reid Baer

Holler out Fie! Fie!
When you see me skim
Across sawdust piles

Looking low and high
For the sliver in
My own brother's eye

And help me say Hi!
To inner rotting
Timber where I lie ...

Do I laugh or cry
As I cut through pain
And feel skinned alive?!

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

by

Reid Baer

God as Father is an
Altercation

Way too much has passed this
Generation

So let me make a small
Alteration

And hold Grand Father in
Veneration
