why

by

Grant Appley

some build for money to eat
some build for money to defeat
why can't all build for the same crop of wheat
stead a being hungry for the dieing meat

curious smiles

by

Grant Appley

long time comin
feelings let loose
love was hummin
i didn't see the noose

livin every hour
under sun & stars
slowly lost my power
started hittin bars

i'm alone once again
overwhelming sadness
my anger is a sin
love i didn't press

maybe just a dream
strong of want & need
memories of skin like cream
with lonliness i feed

i know.......someday
our eyes will meet
once again,we will be
friends with curios smiles

lovin feelin sore
if time ever opens the door
i'd step back---------lots!

soft lady kind

by

Grant Appley

to marilynn appley
on a cloud
in a sky
forever blue
above
love from a son
below
among so many
heart & mind's
rememberin
soft lady kind
i wonder often
thoughts a you & me
maybe mountains blue
and a rainy day

success is standin
somewhere i've not been
still appears the beauty
of a sunset without sin

special moments mournin

by

Grant Appley

i don't hunt

fierce eyes grew tender
sadness replaced fear
melting snow & one last breath
goodbye to one old lion

comes a sierra wind
howlin through brittle trees
a mountain lions such a sight
layin still on the mornins white

to imagine such a life
so special to sit here
snowflakes settle on chilling fur
farewells a tear for her

standin in the rain

by

Grant Appley

tears from pillows
restin upon weepin willows
drips onto fresh cut lawn
minglin through the blades

suddenly gone

soakin roots
down the hill
grows the fruits
creeks fill

skys weep for life
not for pain
like that lonely wife
standin in the rain

december spirit

by

Grant Appley

breath hits my lamp
darkness sets in
night so cold & damp
invites me for a sip a gin

thoughts a others
finds a grin
to much warmth smothers
never finish what we begin

butte bar ride

by

Grant Appley

listenin to voices
horses talkin to
megan,cody,jason & heidi
buildin memories below skys blue

enjoyin a pacific crest trail
world ain't flat here
sierras cedars,maples & oaks
lookin down on rib-eyes & beer

cinnamon's packin a sore shoulder
danny's packin a smile
joe w's packin some mighty fine spurs
i could stay awhile

crickits welcome the stars
a symphony in the night
crack a dawn appears
i hear nothin but quiet

done

by

Grant Appley

lone man thinks a time
women & years
thoughts free
no need for a dime
past's hidden in mirrors

runnin,playin & handsome
ignorin wrinkles a age
livin to die by a custom
can't escape this cage

clouds be cryin for me
wings begin, two grow
weathered branch on a very old tree
falls to earth as fierce winds blow

playin with immortals
stars be ticklish
mortals becomin heavenly souls
lookin down on forgotten debts

nice to watch it pass

by

Grant Appley

moon is bright tonight
shinin thru dirty glass
few rise'ns before
full moons insight

nice to watch it pass

treetops tickle the moon
almost see it blush
asleep at noon
into darkness with a hush

nice to watch it pass

twelve...so old

by

Grant Appley

early mornin's figurin time
daughter's growin fast
tender words be the past
huntin answers in a ryme

amber gayso's twelve....so old
oh to love & fight
sippin coffee writin why
i'do what i was told

been smokin since ten
my lungs began at thirty
explainin bad makes her mad
should kick her wrinklin skin

may be my words
teachers tend the clock
i can't sit back & watch
early birds & turds on a rock

frosted mirror

by

Grant Appley

so cold
sheets seem to shiver
growin old

a young man saw
an older man
buildin his unfinished plan

see the smile
finished work in his head
wishin awhile
away from his shiverin bed

let
sun shine on agein eyes
give
old bones warm sheets

my eyes await sunrise
ya know
tis the devil
who cheats the streets

friend kim

by

Grant Appley

on an old chair sittin
on an antique writin
huntin thru a box
a pictures that almost speak

friend kim,god & smiles
goodbye says i in the wind

days to days to days
workin with thoughts lots
kim & i were 52's
in bed i heard the news

no sad goodbyes
hello friend kim

you with golden wings

sixties

by

Grant Appley

me & my radio
open door & a sky a stars
where do the years go
along with our ol cars

young,soft girls
suddenly men with long hair
rednecks cuttin curls
intelligence did not care

no reason to hate
hippies & non-violence
firemen huntin peacelovin jailbait
time made no sense

near a timber & a pookie
evers mountain bottom days
