Time

by

Viki Ackland

I noticed my skin today
it was dry and red
even beneath the silver
betraying an evil thing
age that creeps behind me
my face still manifests youth
if I am somber
even though the nails
are longer, harder
I despise nail polish
and plucking and tweezing
and coloring, so offensive

my hands ached today
and my wrist, slightly
and the occasional twinge
in my hips, as I sashayed
like the young hip woman
I feel I truly am
I embrace the laugh lines
rid myself of lint
and run towards life
perhaps a little slower
only to the observant

Forgotten

by

Viki Ackland

I have forgotten you
sincerely
the face that haunts my dreams
is featureless
the eyes void of compassion

I have forgotten you
friends
tell me I must, and so I comply
smiling
I drag my heart unnoticed

I have forgotten you
the tears
are for another time
place
life is constant change

I have forgotten you
naked
alone in the rain
one memory
I keep for myself

Hoje eu senti minha pele
estava seca e vermelha
até mesmo ao luar
Tentando enganar
A idade que rasteja atrás de mim
minha face manifesta a mocidade
se eu sou sombria
ainda que as unhas
sejam longas, duras
Eu despreso unhas polidas
e arranco com pinças
e pinto, para ofender

minhas mãos estão doloridas
e meu pulso, também,
e o tormento da dor ocasional
em meus quadris, como eu dancei
igual uma mulher de quadril jovem
Eu sinto, eu verdadeiramente sou
Eu abraço as linhas de riso
me liberte dessas linhas
e corro para vida
talvez um tanto lento
só para o observante

Esquecido

Eu te esqueci
sinceramente
a face que assombra meus sonhos
é sem traços
olhos sem compaixão

Eu te esqueci
amigo
diga-me se devo, e assim eu concordo
sorrindo
E pego meu coração desavisado

Eu te esqueci
as lágrimas
são para outros dias
lugares
vida é constante mudança

Eu te esqueci
nu
sozinho na chuva
uma memória
Que eu mantenho prá mim

Two Souls

by

Viki Ackland

Purple dragonfly lamp
clipped wings thrum

Catnip licked dry
rough tongue lovingly
waits for the sound

Yellow silhouette
on colorless walls
drab from solitude

Lined paper calm,
overlooked half scribble

Poetry and reminiscence
hidden between the lines
never read obscurity

Wicker basket paused
unfinished, unremembered
gathered in spring

Bits of color that began
and then understood

There was no reason
to carry on the game
waiting in the crack

cracks in everything

The half face shines
in the faded wallpaper
twisted posy smile

like her shadow
like his shadow

Picture Perfect

endless sky
wandering
blue ring
as half moon lids
open to beckon

speechless
i lift my artist hand
undeserving
as your sea
overcomes me
