...SAW VI revives the series

As the series of SAW continues, it's interesting to see that each movie in the franchise brings something new. Most sequels are repetitive. With each new sequel, SAW has brought something new to the table.

The story is about a man involved in health insurance. He has to go through a series of traps if he wants to see his family again. Detective Hoffman is continuing to hide his secret as the cops are closing in on him. The story of SAW VI is very interesting. It's good to see political problems and how they can become monsters. The plot is stronger than most of the previous sequels. The writing is great by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. They answered many, close to all, questions from SAW through SAW V. The concept of this movie is great.

The acting is quite good. Tobin Bell gives a stellar performance. Betsy Russell (Jill Tuck) gives a great performance. Each and every character interact perfectly throughout. There are a few lines that fall flat, but in general, the acting is just fine.

The budget has grown over the years for this franchise. Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, finally see how big of a profit SAW has become. The traps are bigger and props are more realistic. The traps are creative and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Overall, SAW VI revives the series. This is one of the best SAW entries since the original. The characters are more in-depth and realistic. The ending is a huge twist. Nobody will expect the ending, as was true in the first. The writers listened to the fans and brought Amanda back. Many questions have been answered from the previous films. This is a must-see for any horror fan.

Tuesday: The Others

Well written and superbly acted.

One of the rarest movies to find is a good ghost film. Most of these flicks are the same. They have the same beginning, end and sometimes even similar dialogue. The Others is one of those hidden gems that is very underrated.

The plot is about a woman and her children who live in a huge house. Her children cannot go into the sunlight because they are photosensitive. The family is convinced that the house is haunted. The story is original. The best thing about the writing is that it is unique. Everything that happens is something new. The story is very well written throughoutl.

Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman is the mother of the children. She does a stunning job. Kidman is able to play her role perfectly and not come off as annoying. She is the bitchy mother and could get very annoying. Kidman plays this role while sounding sincere and that she really cares about her children. The acting in this film is spectacular.

The look of the film is dark. The only light shown is candle light and occasional sunlight. It is so dark, the question is if the house is really haunted or not. There are scenes that may be in their heads, or might not. The lighting and angles are manipulated well.

The Others is a creepy and eerie film. It captures mystery and suspense throughout. As the film continues, the more intense it becomes. This is the type of movie in which the audience is constantly sitting on the edge of their seats. The Others is highly recommended and a must see.

There is nothing to recommend this film.

Vampires have been in movies for long time. Some are good, but it is rare. Most are cheesy, boring, and repetitive. This describes Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant.

The plot follows a boy and his friend. The two kids get a flyer saying there is a freak show in town. They are curious, so the two check it out. There are all kinds of freaky traits shown in the performance. One of the boys steals the vampire's spider, since he loves spiders. The spider escapes and bites his best friend. He returns to the theater and asks the vampire for the antidote to save his friend. In return, he must be turned half vampire and be his assistant. I find the freak show to be interesting. The abilities are interesting to watch. After a few have been shown, it begins to get boring. The story doesn't go anywhere and is pointless.

The only cast member I find exciting is John C. Reilly. He has been in many comedies that are great. However, he gave a mediocre performance at best. The rest of the cast are terrible. They never interact correctly and nothning seems real. I expect more out of John C. Reilly in the future.

The visuals vary throughout the film. The computer work on the freaks and their abilities is fine. It is done perfectly and looks very real. As the movie continues, it heads downhill. When a vampire runs, it looks fake. This is a big budget film, it should have great visuals.

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant is a terrible film. Many Twilight fans will pay money to see this, but they will feel ripped off.. The ending is predictable and will try to set itself for a sequel. I hope that this garbage never hits theaters again. If you are a vampire fan or not, it doesn't matter. There is nothing to recommend this film.

...splendid movie for Halloween.

Trick 'r Treat

For modern cinema, it is rare to find a thriller about the holiday Halloween. There have been some in the past. Trick 'r Treat is a modern Halloween flick. This movie has been delayed for a long time. It was supposed to go to theaters, but ended up taking too long and went to Blu-Ray and DVD. Now, it is finally out to the public.

The film has four stories that happen on Halloween. One is about a school principal who has a secret life. A second is about a college virgin with her slutty friends on their way to a party. The last story is a woman who hates the holiday, but whose husband loves Halloween. The writing is great. It never is trite and it flows perfectly. Each story is interesting, creative, and unique in its own way. Many films that do this end up being confusing or get boring. This movie keeps it interesting and each story is fun to watch play out.

As soon as I heard of this flick, I was surprised to hear Anna Paquin's involvement. She gives a great performance, as always. Anna keeps her scenes realistic, no matter how crazy they become. There are other known names attached to this film. Just about each actor pulls his or her weight.

The visuals are well done. The appearance of the film is eerie, ominous, and creepy. One of the children in this film will never be forgotten. The costume and look are extremely creepy. This child happens to be on the cover of the Blu-Ray and DVD. He has a sack over his head with buttons for eyes. Visuals stand out strongly throughout.

Overall, Trick 'r Treat is a splendid movie. The stories flow perfectly without being boring. The actors do a great job, much better than in most Hollywood flicks. The visuals work very well in this film. I didn't really have any gripes with this film. It is not a perfect movie, but has very few flaws. This movie is not bloody, gory, or too disturbing. It is not meant to be terrifying and does have comedy in it. The film contains subtle scares with creepy atmospheres. This allows more audiences to view it. Trick 'r Treat is the perfect movie to watch on Halloween.

Next movie: SAW V

Friday: SAW V

SAW V is an alright addition to the series...

SAW V

Whether audiences love or hate the SAW sequels or the original film or not, is irrelevant. Starting as a low budget film and continuing to a fifth, with a sixth to follow, SAW is here to stay.

The story is about Special Agent Strahm who is cracking down on finding Jigsaw's apprentice. He suspects Detective Hoffman and knows he is up to no good. As this is happening, there are five people in one room. All of them are forced to play Jigsaw's game. It is survival of the fittest. The story is well written. In a sense, the plot is better than the fourth entry. The idea is great, but execution could have been much better. It holds the viewer's attention and manages to keep suspense throughout.

The acting is better in this film than it is in SAW IV. Tobin Bell, once again, stands out as the most talented actor in the film. Julie Benz and Greg Bryk are another two that make it in this flick. I am a fan of Julie Benz, which is probably the reason why she stood out for me. Greg Bryk does a great job with his role. Everything from dialogue to screaming in pain he does well. It is nice to see Tobin Bell in action again and Julie Benz in the spotlight.

Visuals and camera angles have improved from the fourth film. The traps are interesting. Some are more violent, some have no blood involved. The camera angles are inventive and haven't ever seen some of them being used this wayr. The blood and props are great looking and very realistic. The visuals pass with flying colors.

Overall, SAW V is an alright addition to the series. This film got mixed opinions, and some may disagree with me and say it is awful. If you are trying to impress somebody with the SAW series, this is not the one to show them first. Fans of the series will appreciate this sequel for what it is, as I did. There is more of a back story for Jigsaw. This movie leaves a lot of unanswered questions to be answered in the next sequel. The ending is not as impressive as in the previous four, but it still ends nicely. SAW V is recommended asr a rental, but be cautious as this movie is not for everyone.
