Everybody under the age of 40 has known about Transformers as a cartoon or as the action figures since they were children. They were made for young kids, but finally Hollywood has made a version teenagers and adults can enjoy. The story is not completely original, but it worked well. It is an action film and does not need to be criticized much on its story. It is simple and easy to understand. It paced itself rather well and did not go overboard with filling up the time while not making it a short film.
The former Disney star, Shia LaBeouf, has started to become a big time actor. He has been in quite a lot of flicks, but he is starting to hit the bigger films in the industry. Megan Fox has also had her big break from Transformers. These two stars did well, but I expected a little bit more chemistry. You get a feel for some of their relationship in the beginning, but after that, there is too much about them as two individuals later. I would have liked to see them interact more as they did in the sequel.
Computer graphics have been being used in many movies recently. Transformers used a lot of it, but it never disappoints. The CGI is detailed and looks very vibrant, but it was not overdone. I did not expect anything less than what I saw. Everything that was added through the computer was nothing short of stunning.
Overall, Transformers is one of the best adaptations of a children's cartoon. It came out to go out for all ages, both genders and does just that. This is one of the better movies that came out in that entire year. If you have not seen this movie yet, I suggest you run to Blockbuster or Netflix immediately and rent it.
Next movie: Juno

Every year there are so many drama-romance-comedies that it's difficult for anyone see them all in a year. Most of them are cliché, stereotypical and guys are usually dragged to them by their girlfriends, sisters, or friends. When seeing this genre is when critics and opinions of others really needs to be taken into consideration before going to the cinema or even renting. The story for Juno is not too original. A teenage girl gets pregnant and is not sure what to do with the baby. She begins her search for parents to adopt the baby, and everything goes to hell. While it is not original, it has heazrt, not just jokes.
Not everybody will recognize the cast, but I truly enjoyed this particular cast. Ellen Page (from Hard Candy) gives a ground breaking performance as the pregnant teenager. Jennifer Garner (from Alias and 13 Going On 30) gives a lot of heart and innocence to her character as the mother adopting the child. Michael Cera (from Superbad) is not in the movie a lot, but still gives something new to a role that in most movies is stereotypical. In this movie it is not. He plays the biological father of the baby. The acting deserves an oscar or two just for its mind boggling performances.
Juno does not have many visuals, but does have great sets. The houses, the atmosphere and bright colors used give the movie a great feeling for the audience. This is important for this genre of film, the audience wants to feel good or sympathetic for the characters as well as the situation. This movie does a great job with giving the audience something unexpected.
Overall, Juno is a great film. It is hilarious and still pulls the carpet from underneath the audience. It is always nice to see something new in this genre and I hope movies continue to present new and oriignal material. The acting was amazing and the jokes, while not always something teenagers would say, are still funny. Juno is highly recommended and is something even guys can enjoy watching with their girlfriends, sisters, or friends.

There have been a lot of big blockbuster movies being released this summer. Inglourious Basterds was one of the most anticipated movies on my list of movies to see. There is no doubt that Inglourious Basterds will be seen by many people just because of the cast and director. The story is interesting from every aspect. It is about Nazis and a group of people who are trying to take down Hitler himself to shut down the massacre. It gets very complex because there is a large froup of people attempting this and they are unaware that they are all after the same goal. The movie shuffles rapidly through characters and story lines throughout, but it keeps the audience's attention.
Acting is important in a film, such as this. With bad acting, situations seem fake and laughable. Fortunately, this film does not have bad acting. Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Mélanie Laurent, and many others did a spectacular job. Each line is delivered perfectly and could not have been done better.
Every Quentin Tarantino film that is released has stunning visuals. Inglourious Basterds follows that trend perfectly. Each scalp that is removed, every drop of blood, every gun shot looks realistic. There is not nearly as much blood or violence as was used in Kill Bill...Vol. 1 & 2. It is the people who are exaggerated, since this film does not concentrate on blood or gore. Instead, it centers on story, characters, and what any person would want to do to Hitler and his army.
Overall, Inglourious Basterds is one of the best films of the summer. It is a bit long, but I did not see many scenes that were unnecessary. I highly respect Quentin Tarantino and his cast as they have made a great film. If you are to see any war film or just any film this summer, Inglourious Basterds is the one to see.
