Ever since The 40-Year-Old Virgin was released, othjer movies have been trying to upgrade it. Each such movie gets a lot of hype and a lot of money. Most of the same actors and actresses are used, and the blonde woman from Knocked Up is in The Ugly Truth, which is another addition to this series.

In romance comedies, story lines are not the top of what is expected. Most stories are cheesy, cliché, and slightly boring. The Ugly Truth does not go completely away from the trend. There is nothing provided in the story that the audience has not seen before.

When somebody goes to see a romantic comedy, people expect mediocre acting, but this one has its moments. Most of the film's acting is mediocre, but there are moments that the actors and actresses did a great job. The major points in the movie are when the two leads are to interact. If they are by themselves or with someone else, it seems plain and cheesy. There is nothing much to see in the acting in The Ugly Truth. Every visual that is used is obviously fake. When the leads were on a hot air balloon, it is obviously that a green screen used behind them and looked pathetic. This movie is not a low budget film, so they could have had either good looking CGI or the real deal. Just about nothing is real in the running time of the movie.

Neverthelessl, The Ugly Truth is interesting. Not much is new or original, but it is funny. This movie is not for children in any way, but there is no adult or older teenager who will not laugh throughout this movie. The movie's comedy is entirely sexual humor and if that is offendsive to people they should not see it. It is not worth seeing in the theater, wait for it to hit DVD and Blu-Ray and give it a rent. Recommended only as a rental.

Wednesday: The Collector

Only for those who can handle the blood and gore.

The writers of the SAW flims have been releasing a lot of quality horror films, whether they be limited release or wide release. The newest horror film to be released is The Collector. It was sent to the MPAA many times to get an R rating. Each time they sent it, the film got an NC-17 rating for sadistic bloody violence and explicit nudity. This is the first time in movie history that a film has received this rating for these specific reasons. Even the rated R version is dangerously close to NC-17 and is only in limited release.

The story is interesting and unique. A robber needs to rob a rich family's house to pay off debts that his wife got the family into. He comes across at the wrong time, crossing paths with a serial killer named The Collector and now must save the family inside the house and get out alive. The main character begins as an antagonist and finishes the movie as a protagonist. Robbers are discovered evil, but now evil has found something worse.

There are a few familiar faces in this movie. The wife of the robber's family is from The Hills Have Eyes 2 and the teenage daughter in the rich people's family is in Californication. There were never moments in the film that the actors made the situation seem fake or cheesy. There is nothing special about the cast, but fortunately, there is nothing bad about them either.

Visuals are very important for a film like this. This movie never failed to impress me with each of the traps and how realistic the blood and guts looked. The make-up artist did a great job with each individual actor and really does make a difference in the movie. There is a lot of blood used throughout and it was just the right color and the right texture to pass as real.

Overall, The Collector is much more gruesome than Hostel and SAW. It does not matter if this is the R rated version or the NC-17 version, it is wrong for any young kid or young teenager to see this. There is a lot of blood and gore in the film and it never stops once it is started. There is a lot of nudity showing everything but a frontal nudity shot. The Collector has a great ending with amazing editing and will be popular once the film spreads throughout the world. For those who can handle the blood and gore, this is definitely a movie to see in theaters.

Next movie: A Perfect Getaway

Friday: A Perfect Getaway

A Perfect Getaway is not perfect, but still is very good...

When movies are released, they are advertised in advance to get people excited. A Perfect Getaway did not advertise until about a month before it was released theatrically. It's hard to know what to expect when a movie is advertised so close to the film's wide release.

The moment I saw the trailer, I knew the story would be decent. Yes, it is a survival movie, and no it is not a remake or rip off. A Perfect Getaway is a mystery and thriller and uses twists throughout leading to a fantastic ending. There are twists that not many people will expect.

The biggest known name in this film is MIlla Jovovich, who has starred in The Fifth Element and the Resident Evil. Whenever I see her name on a film, I know that the acting will be splendid. Milla makes every movie she does realistic just by the emotion she gives to it. The rest of the cast do well and there are not too many lines that seem unrealistic. Milla Jovovich simply gives another brilliant performance.

For films such as A Perfect Getaway and Turistas, visuals are very important. The film is taking place in Hawaii, a beautiful place wkich it needs to be shown. At the beginning of the movie there are beautiful island and ocean shots. The filming locations are absolutely perfect. The blood and props look very realistic and nothing looks fake. The visuals are great and I am glad that they boast the scenery to the audience.

Overall, this film passes in each category, but parts of it dragged. Some scenes go on longer than necessary and begin to get dull. Once the mystery and clues begin to show up is when the film starts to get interesting. When violence and blood starts up, it doesn't stop until the film ends. This is not just a thriller, either, it is also funny, purposely. It makes fun of itself quite a few times and during romantic moments in the end. A Perfect Getaway is not perfect, but still is very good and recommended to be seen theatrically.
