She's the Man (2006)

...a bore...

Amanda, Amanda, what have you done? Have you already lost your touch at such a young age? I certainly hope not, as she is one of the most charming people on film. She's the Man let's her express this to a certain extent, but the leash is cut short.

Viola (Bynes) is convinced that she can pull off a stunt that may give her a spot on her dream soccer team. "What kind of stunt?" you ask? Well, she is basically trying to be her twin brother. The shenanigan begins to go wrong when Viola falls in love with her roommate (Tatum) who is in love with someone else.

This movie was a bore. Usually, I would be thrilled to watch a film starring Amanda Bynes. Well, now that I think of it, I was…until I pressed play. You will never be fooled by her disguise or believe that this could possibly happen, but it can be entertaining at times.

One other thing that was missing from the movie was the moral. It started out with a lesson on women being just as good as men. Then, without warning, it turned into some weird love story. As usual, crappy releases have at least one character who steals the spotlight. [Drum roll]…and the award goes to….David Cross! The very "intriguing" headmaster is often funny in a very smooth way. Don't think that he is worth watching the movie though. That would be a HUGE mistake!

Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

...most action packed movie of the summer...

Jason Bourne's final outing is not to be missed. It is probably the most action packed movie of the summer, and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you do not see it. Of course, it would be pointless if you haven't seen the previous films. Ultimatum is hard to follow anyway!

Jason (Damon), clueless as ever, continues his journey for truth one last time. He must find who he was (is?) while escaping the CIA and various other foes. You don't think he could do this by himself do you? Nicky (Stiles), a current employee of the CIA, helps him on his travels through London, Moscow, Madrid, and the U.S. of A. Will he regain his memory?

This has to be one of the best conclusions to a trilogy ever. The intelligent script, wonderful cast, and mind blowing special effects are only part of the genius. Not only do I recommend you watch it, I recommend you drag your friends along too. As always, there is one small problem. The movie takes quite a while to get to the point of purpose. At first, you start to wonder why the film even exists. Luckily, once it does pick up, it is amazing. The ending left me craving more. Now I'll have to go read the books…that would be an entirely different website though!

House of 1000 Corpses (2003)

...could have been great...

Summer is the best time to catch a good movie, but if I gave out good scores all the time they would mean nothing, right? Well, here is a film that I thought would be perfect to pick on. It is like Rob Zombie wrote down a bunch of ideas and then filmed them in the order he came up with them. There doesn't seem like there is a connection between anything. Random murder is usually awesome, but this is too random. If only he could have fleshed out his thoughts… this could have been great.

Two young couples travel to a rural Texas area in hopes of finding the truth about a mythical creature "Dr. Satan". They get more than they asked for when a group of evil freaks side track them. They must escape their captors and evade torture before it is too late.

Zombie truly failed to scare me. After a lot of hype on the gore/horror in this film, I was excited. Instead, you just get a lot of scenes that turn your stomach, and they don't do it in a good way like Saw. He did get one thing right. It really did have a 70s feel to it. Oh, I forgot to mention that? This is starting to sound a lot like another movie. Hmm, does The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ring any bells? Yea, well it should. We can only hope that the upcoming remake of the classic Halloween movie will redeem his reputation in the horror genre.
