Casino Royale (2006)

"...best in the franchise."

If you were leery of this Bond prequel, fear no more! I can easily say that this is the best in the franchise. Most of you more than likely had your favorite James Bond. I liked Pierce Brosnan (that could be because it was during my childhood), but I'm sure that you had your own opinion. Now, those opinions don't matter. You will certainly fall in love with Daniel Craig and hope they never cancel his contract.

James Bond's first mission leads him to the Casino Royale where he must defeat Le Chiffre, banker to the world's terrorists, and bankrupt their network. Verper Lynd (Eva Green) is assigned to watch over the British government's money that is being put into the poker game. As they are attacked by Le Chiffre and his henchmen, a romance develops.

Casino Royalefeatures what nearly every other film in this franchise lacked. What is that word? Oh, yes, plot. Don't lose hope just yet. It is still as flashy as ever and the special effects couldn't have been better. Craig's performance was quite different from the past actors'. He is more of a "shoot you in the face" man, than "let's invite you over for tea", and it is about time. Surprisingly, I didn't get bored during the poker scenes. I actually began guessing what every player's strategy was. Whether you like this kind of thing or not, you will enjoy the movie at some level. I promise you will not regret it.

Marie Antoinette (2006)

...a fairly decent movie...

The story of one of the most hated political figures in history turned into a fairly decent movie. Wow! That's a first. Seriously, though, Marie Antoinette expresses the hardships of the queen while keeping you interested with the beautiful costumes and sets. I would be lying if I said that the film didn't have flaws, but you will be satisfied regardless.

Sofia Coppola directs this sad tale of a naive Austrian princess that is married into French royalty at the early age of nineteen. Soon after arriving, Marie Antoinette is sworn in as queen after her father-in-law, the former king, dies from a sudden illness. Also, her troubles begin to extend from the throne and into her bedroom. She is being harassed by the Austrians and French to become pregnant and deliver the next "Son of France".

Not only did Sofia illustrate the luxurious lifestyle of the rich, but she also managed to show us the confining side of being the queen of a nation. I could almost give this a near perfect rating. The scenes are either too long or too short, and that prevents me from doing so. If you watch this for nothing more than the eye candy, you will be rewarded.

Jeepers Creepers (2001)

"...keeps the flow going..."

The title may sound like something your younger siblings would say, but I assure you the content is far more mature. You may ask, "What's so great about it?". It starts from the first minute you press play. There's not any lame story build-up, character development, etc. The terror just starts and I loved it.

A brother and sister, returning home during spring break, witness a creepy truck driver dumping bodies into the sewer near an abandoned church. Once they believe the coast is clear, they investigate and get in more trouble than they had ever asked for. They flee the scene, but a monstrous "shape" is on their tail.

Unlike most horror movies, not that many people actually die in this film. Usually, that would be a problem, but this film keeps the flow going and never stops for a break. I highly recommend this over the sequel (which for some reason received more advertisement). You can more than likely buy this for under ten dollars, so why not give it a chance? I can guarantee that you'll never look at corn fields the same way again...

My Rating = Four Stars
