The Web Poetry Corner - Wesley A. Storer - Where the midnight candles shine

Where the midnight candles shine

by

Wesley A. Storer

These little dreams our hearts divine
Come as no real great surprise
If we listen to the wise
The grandest rose is hard to find

Dear friends we are gathered by
Our poor dear friend to say goodbye
No longer shall she tend
To the broken hearts decline

Or seek the sweetest wine
Or search by candle light
For John Greenleaf Whittiers
Sweetest rhyme

Tis our hoped for hearts consent
She is gone to that great shrine
Where the midnight candles shine
And the angels sing sublime

And so our friend goodbye
