The Rose of Paris
by
Wesley A. Storer
for Devie
This is the sad little story
Of pretty little Cindy LaBree
Who loved poetry and art
Who died from a broken heart
When one day her handsome sway
Left her poor heart to pine away
No more nights of broken rest
Without a lover's soft caress
Her poor heart knowing best
Left her a cinder heading West
Poor little cinder Cindy LaBree
But a high wind carried her East
Taking her far out over the Sea
And released her high over Paree
To a garden where the Seine flows
Where she was adopted by a Rose
A most lovely Rose named Devie
The most beautiful Rose in all Paree
O come to me sweet flower of love
My heart lies heavy in the night
I am old with no good end in sight
Comfort me with kisses in the night
Oh to die kissed by the Rose Devie
