The Web Poetry Corner - T. J. Daniels - DEATH IN A PRISON CAMP

DEATH IN A PRISON CAMP

by

T. J. Daniels

You had to choose death
in order to sustain life.

As I helplessly watched
my heart cried.

For you had to choose those
that were closest to you.

And those that were chosen
went willingly.

By your actions
many lived

but my heart died.

A number of years ago, I watched a movie about a holocaust prison camp. Some prisoners tried to escape but were caught. Those same prisoners were told that they each had to chose one person to die with them, or twice as many would die. Many of their loved ones willingly volunteered.
