Treacherous Heart
by

Be still, my treacherous heart_
before you tear my world apart_
My secrets you are sure to give away_
You know that I am weak,
and when you cause my lips to speak,
I can’t control the words you make me say_
This smile upon my face_
feels so strangely out of place_
You put it there for all the world to see_
My eyes give off a glow_
And I’m sure, my heart, you know_
It comes from love that grows inside of me_
My heart, why did you fall,
when I had built a fortress tall,
with locks to keep you in, and keep love out?
My thoughts were all arranged_
but now it seems so very strange_
I thought I knew what life was all about_
So now, my treacherous heart_
I’m not quite sure where I should start_
These feelings have me shaken and confused_
You seem to know what’s best_
And you’ve discarded all the rest_
Play well, my heart_we can’t afford to lose!
