The Storm Within the Calm

Outside the calm belies the storm within_
The deafening thunder, lightning flash, and roaring of the wind_
A smiling face to show the world that nothing’s going on_
While just inside, the storm is raging strong_

The storm begins with waking at the dawn_
When realization, mixed with truth, fight courage to belong_
They place themselves beside the door, that keeps them all at bay_
The door stays locked_the key stays hid away_

Those closest sense the storm and feel it’s course_
They know the power that’s held within, and see it’s raging force_
Destruction in denial looms upon each morning’s light_
Those closest make their stand, prepared to fight_

The storm that rages makes us who we are_
And though the howling winds and swelling seas are never far_
We hold their power inside our souls, to use as healing balm_
The storm within subsides into the calm_
