The Web Poetry Corner - Stephan Hovell - Good Soldier (To Dad)
Good Soldier (To Dad)
by
Stephan Hovell
Twenty fifth of April,a day lest we forget.
a day in remembrance,of things we must regret.
Up before the light,to make the dawn parade,
brummer beats, bugal plays, corps flags all displayed.
The old men march, with quivering lips,
called to attention, they straiten their hips.
With so much pride, they still turn out,
and at the call, they face about.
Hear their heel,stomp in time,
Sgt-major yells,and checks the line.
Their ranks are dwindleing, bloke by bloke,
this is why ANZAC,is no joke.
It`s our identity, thanks to their fight,
head down broadway, left right left right.
For my father Lonewood David Hovell, who served in Korea.
