The Web Poetry Corner - Sherene Delgado - The lies we tell

The lies we tell

by

Sherene Delgado

I gaze at the stars above in the never-ending sky
And try to understand why the world has become what it is
A haven for violence
A world so full of bitterness and rage that we are often blinded by it
There does not seem to be enough love to go around
Yet enough tears to fill the ocean
I have seen the tears of a friend who’s been touched by this disease
And wonder where was god
Our protector
Our savior
Our lie
The lie for which we tell ourselves so we can feel safe once again
A wish we hope for but have never seen proof of
To build a society on a lie is to prepare for a fall
For the foundation we stand on have too many holes to be stable
All I seek are answers
All I get are more questions
Questions that seem to have no answers
