The Web Poetry Corner - Sarah Lavery - Religion
Religion
by
Sarah Lavery
I sat there content.
merely a sheep.
I heard a harsh cry,
"START MOVING YOUR FEET!"
Just as I turned,
a man caught my eye.
He ignored every word,
harsh statement and cry.
He paid no attention
to the grins and the scowls,
As He grew weaker,
blood and thorns on His brow.
Above the rest, a soldier howled,
"KING OF THE JEWS, SAVE YOURSELF NOW!"
The women were crying
and Mary was pouting.
Meanwhile the crowd,
started more shouting.
Veronica ran and
wiped off His face.
Soldiers yelled,
"WOMAN, GET BACK INTO PLACE!"
He fell three times,
each time in pain.
God, these last hours
were filled with such vain.
Simon came by and
carried His load.
Soon after that,
He was stripped of His clothes.
Dice were shaking in
the gamblers hands.
Then clouds formed overhead
and covered the lands.
Nails were driven
through His hands and feet.
His mother, now sobbing,
stood there so sweet.
He was scorned by the
thieves at both of His sides.
Then soon on Calvary,
He died.
