The Web Poetry Corner - Samantha M Jones - Drifters of the night

Drifters of the night

by

Samantha M Jones

No-one pays attention to the old and lonely
No-one is aware of another persons plight
They're cosseted away with their own comforts
Whilst young and old are drifters of the night
Why can't we spare a thought for the old and lonely
We never need to know just who they are
Reach out a gentle hand to a total stranger
That act of love will surely reach afar
Perhaps you hadn't noticed that you too are lonely
Locked inside the prison you have made
A different kind of loneliness I'll grant you
But still it can make each of us afraid
So spare a kindly thought for the old and lonely
Make yourself aware of another person's plight
Share your love with everyone around you
Before all become sad drifters of the night
