The Web Poetry Corner - Richard James Van Der Draaij - Tripping

Tripping

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Tripping through the dark-veiled hour,
Slipping on the red-scent flower,
Tired and yet smiling.

Greeting house guests at the door,
Eyes turned slowly to the floor,
Offer them a beverage.

Making gestures, proud and free,
Self-assured, oh can you see
The energy within?

Chocolate cookies on a tray,
Thinking of what else to say,
To minds that will not come along,
With inner motions, feeling strong.

Alone and quiet in the room,
A sense of well approaching gloom,

The forceful strength of younger days,
Now covered in a well-known haze,
And sleep will come at last.
