The Web Poetry Corner - Richard James Van Der Draaij - This Poetry
This Poetry
by
Richard James Van Der Draaij
This poetry which comes in bursting waves of exultation,
Is the purest of imaginable kinds of elevation,
To a sphere where no more lie dormant powers of the mind,
Where in stead the traveller has all the worlds and more to find,
It is here where I have been before I ever came to be,
It is here where I shall be when I have nowhere left to flee,
In my words I must convey my inner self in every way,
In the morning is a warning of what may pass the coming day,
And the force, the gentle force with which kind memories prevail,
Makes me do believe I found myself some sort of holy grail,
Or at least a brilliant feast or some silent inner prize,
Or a thought, the clearest thought of more than merely human size,
All the angels in the Heavens who have gone astray unite,
And pour out your hearts of fire into me here while I write,
I shall mingle with your words all the sounds that I have known,
And shall leave them here so solidly, almost as if cut in stone.
