The Web Poetry Corner - Richard James Van Der Draaij - Safe

Safe

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

The world turns, while you are asleep,
Your inner most, cared-for dreams
In my heart of hearts I'll keep,
I watch your closed eyes, carelessly,
You breathing in life and love, and me,
I'll keep you safe from them out there,
It's you for whom I will always care,
So stay here with me, safe from harm,
The world cannot touch you, not tonight,
I caress your hair, smooth in this silver light,
And think of all the days gone by,
Then you turn and gently sigh,
All I wanted is right here,
The world still turns,
I will keep you near.
