The Web Poetry Corner - Richard James Van Der Draaij - Mercy

Mercy

by

Richard James Van Der Draaij

Could ever one so fine as thee,
Come near to me and truly see,
What makes me shiver in the night,
And gives me smiles at dawn's sweet light?
Thy mercy breaks my passion free.

If once in life thou camst my way,
I would fall down and start to pray,
To all the angels in the sphere,
That thou wouldst not yet leave me here,
Instead that thou wouldst say:

"Thy path, it was a weary one,
Hiding from the touch of the sun,
And moonlight could not reach thee,
In bitter tears thou couldst not see me,
Now, here at lasts, thy life has begun."
