The Web Poetry Corner - Richard Betts Jr. - Request

by

Richard Betts Jr.

I did not wish to die a hero
Or posthumously gain fame and wealth.
And if I could return from the grave,
I'd ask only one thing for myself.

I'd request that you do not forget
All the men and women like me,
Who died with eyes full of life and fire
To enable you to live so free.
