The Web Poetry Corner - Philip Langley - What was it for

What was it for

by

Philip Langley

We said goodbye to Iraq,
with the smoke at our backs,
looking down upon the ground,
looks like the sea but makes no sound,
we dont belong in this foreign land.
And as we rise up in the air,
I think of mine and say a prayer,
What was it for i do not know,
should I salute them as we go,
I did my best to understand,
Why people died for this sea of sand,
but then again they had no choice,
the decision came from one mans voice.
