The True Kiss of Friendship
by
Philip Claude Andermann
My friend, we are brothers and sisters
since the infinite past
to create an infinite future.
We owe everyone the miracle
of our conception
and sustenance.
Every human is so intimately linked
beyond conception:
my friend,
I shall never forget my gratitude
for what you have done for me.
If you should enter Hell,
I would join you there,
for there we would find God together.
When one sustains gratitude,
the hot coals one might have picked up
to throw with anger
do not burn anyone,
for then instead reversed
they shine the light to a bright new path
to be traversed hand in hand,
each leading next to the other.
For now we live by the transforming God
of gratitude.
