Naked Alone
by
Philip Claude Andermann
Does man make the clothes or do clothes make the man?
A man lies in bed next to his clothes,
next to what he loves and knows intimately
but does not define him:
so emptily undefined, unmade, by these empty things not a person
that he cannot sleep,
because he simply cannot define himself ultimately alone.
Soon he will adorn himself
like grass adorns the earth,
seeking to find himself
one defined among those who would adorn others
and thus find themselves.
