Kosen-rufu Chemistry
by
Philip Claude Andermann
"Kosen-rufu" = loosely translated, Japanese for world peace
through individual fulfillment of potential)
Facing "Gohonzon," a Buddhist scroll explaining cause and effect,
staring at its whorls of Kanji characters that you understand,
I see an upward couble helix,
I see the DNA imprint of a "hope gene"
to turn on throughout my body.
I see the tablet of a Rosetta stone,
engram inscribed on the base of my brain
to understand your needs and hopes and dreams.
I turn to you and see the negative after-image
- like a coral reef riotous with colorful life -
within you glowing as great galaxy of hope
from which you come,
your mission beyond one life and death.
We share the genetics of cause and effect.
Together without realizing it we spell
a new chemical formula
in the drama we write together
through effort.
I return to "Gohonzon."
Our lives intertwined,
the chemistry for "Kosen-rufu" is there.
