Same Time Next Year

The same time next year
Has come around again
I’m so glad that everybody was able
To come together on this day to break bread,
To count their blessings and sit at this table
As we give thanks and bow our heads.
It’s not every year we can meet like this
When our lives have become so immersed
In our children, our careers, and our everyday pursuits
It’s hard to remember that we’re blessed and not cursed.
That’s why it’s so special that we’re all here today
Gathered together in one place
Joined at the table with all of our stories
To eat and be merry and share in this amazing grace.
To give thanks that we’re here to be counted
And praise to God for those who have moved on
To be thankful for the lives that we’re living
And remember the ones who are gone.
We’ll eat turkey, and dressing, and pumpkin pie
All the trimmings of a Thanksgiving Day
And when it’s all over we’ll pray for another one
Same time next year the same way.
